“I’m scared we’ll never get back to what we were,” Jackie whispered, wrapping her fingers in Shauna’s shirt.
“Jackie…” One of Shauna’s hands pressed gently against Jackie’s back, rubbing up and down. “What we were wasn’t working.”
Jackie’s jaw tensed, her eyes squeezing shut tightly. She knew Shauna was right. The journal had made that painfully obvious, but hearing it out loud hurt.

Van closes her locker and stands next to Taissa, opposite Jackie and Shauna's communal bench. “Let’s hear it Cap.”
Jackie looks around, giddy with excitement. She clasps her hands and takes a deep breath before, “Kissing booth!” Her grin is wide, bouncing up and down on the balls of her feet.
Half the room is appalled, the other half intrigued. A few completely disregard Jackie’s idea, and go back to getting changed. Shauna can tell this is Jackie’s favorite idea yet.
It’s Shauna's nightmare.

Shauna froze with a start. She had heard countless stories where Person A would help take care of Person B after a surgery. And usually a clueless Person B would then spew out countless amounts of secrets and inner thoughts to a very clued in Person A.
Shauna could lie. She could go back into Jackie’s room and say, Shauna isn’t here. Tell me all those pretty thoughts in your head Jackie. Tell me the fucked up ones too. Let’s make sure we cover everything.
“I am Shauna, Jax,” Shauna decided to go with instead. She stopped at the edge of the bed, looking down at Jackie.
“No, that’s Shauna!” Jackie pointed to a photo on her dresser. A small framed photo of her and Jackie from a birthday party when they were younger. “That’s my Shauna.”

As she sat down at her desk and picked up a pencil and slip of paper, she thought about writing a bad note just to sabotage the chances of Jackie and Jeff ever getting together. If she wrote like an asshole, Jackie would decide boys are mean and take a break from dating.
And then Jackie would be all hers, forever.
But she knew she couldn’t do that. Jackie really liked Jeff. It wasn’t hard to notice the way her face lit up whenever she talked about him, or how happy she sounded when she told Shauna that her Mom was excited that she found a nice boy she could settle down with. Jackie’s parents met in high school, after all.
Shauna would write a good note, give it to Jeff, and Jackie would read it out loud for Shauna later, giggling at all the awfully romantic parts only someone who’s known Jackie as long as Shauna has could come up with.
Or, Jeff asks Shauna to write a love letter to Jackie for him.
