Summary
There are a couple things in this world that are absolutely unbearable for Alex.
The sound of her parents fighting, for one. She still remembers it, the yelling, that is. It was always so loud that even headphones couldn’t cancel out the noise.
Another thing she cannot fucking stand is when people don’t know how to make good coffee. It’s not that fucking hard.
Thirdly, people not letting her explain herself. She fucking hates being blamed for things that she didn’t do without having the chance to defend herself.
There are a couple more extreme ones, such as racists, bigots, and outright assholes…
But one thing she can’t fucking stand at this particular moment is the snobby, blonde, British girl in her English class who always has her nose stuck in a fucking book.

Alex’s heart seizes, then climbs up into his throat. His mind races with thoughts of Henry, Henry, Henry. “No?”
Zahra’s eyes hold no hint of humor or happiness, only pity. “Come on,” she nudges her head inside, “let’s turn on the TV.”
Pursing his lips, Alex nods dumbly and lets her in, shutting the door. Zahra steps into the sitting room, finds the remote where he left it, and switches the flat screen on.
A weight presses into Alex’s brain as he approaches the room, notes Zahra patting the cushion next to her, and plops down, taking in the CNN headline.

“Alex, he’s the photographer for the gala on Saturday” and when Alex doesn’t respond, he continues. “He came by to check out the space and set up some equipment and lighting,” Henry reaches over the table, grabbing Alex’s free hand and squeezing it. “You have nothing to worry about, darling” then drops his hand reaching for his second cup of spiced chai.
Alex’s shoulder drops and he goes back to his meal.
“Javier is a stupid name” he mumbles.
Henry laughs and kicks him under the table. “Don’t you have a cousin named Javier?”
He shrugs, “Yeah. So what? still a stupid name”.
