That's what Angel is. Gone. Not dead, no. Just not all the way there. Floaty, tired, gone. He couldn't feel, his mind was foggy. And he wanted, so desperately wanted, to feel something, anything. He doesn't know what's going on, he doesn't have the energy too.
All he could do is sink back down into the nothing that has enveloped him.
Until someone pulls him out.

That's what everyone tells Angel daily at Charlie's stupid therapy sessions. And Angel knows that, but he knows how to get worse even better. Most of the time it's even easier. Sometimes it's what he wants.

Angel was used to dealing with this stuff alone.
Especially when it came to someone he loved. He loved Husk so much he couldn't bear losing him, so he couldn't tell him. Because last time he told someone he cared for what he had done, things didn't exactly end well. And Angel messed up the one person he actually loved. The one person that made hell bearable.
And it was his fault. So he learned to keep it to himself.
And he was sure as hell not to repeat that mistake again.
Or: Angel Dust is not used to receiving care, but he finally gets it.

Summary
Husk hovers in the hall, obscured by the half-closed door, and watches Angel stare at his reflection above the sink. He pinches his cheeks, examines the softened edge of his jaw. He rolls up the hem of his borrowed shirt and turns this way and that in the mirror, studying his waistline. He pinches the thin layer of cushion around his hips like he seeks to dig his fingernails in and rip the flesh off. He grimaces and goes to turn on the shower.
Husk slinks back to bed before he can be caught spying. Angel shows up later with minty breath and a fake smile. He slides under the covers beside Husk, cozying up to steal his body heat. Husk slings an arm around Angel’s clothed waist and buries his nose in the crook of his neck, inhaling the scent of soap and faint cigarette smoke. “G’night, beautiful.” Angel hums sleepily in response.
It isn’t until many, many months later that Husk pinpoints this night as the shit-stirrer. He was so distracted by the puffy eyes and dour mood that it never occurred to him that Angel didn’t eat dinner.
