After the English teacher had called, Carol had nearly ripped apart one of the boxes that had contained new copies of books. Not only was Alice acting out at home, she was now also doing it at school. Her daughter was becoming someone unguided, a loose cannon that couldn’t be steered into a right direction. God, Manny had even looked at her in disbelief when she ended the call and wished her good luck once she’d left.
Alice stopped at an open door of a classroom where a brunette was sitting behind the desk, vigorously typing on the laptop. It wasn’t until Alice knocked on the door with the deepest sigh, when the woman looked up.
Carol couldn’t believe her eyes. The very same woman she hadn’t stopped thinking about from the very first time she saw her at the café, was her daughter’s English teacher.

Zosia smiled, teeth on display now. “I want you as my advisor next year. Like I said, I have been waiting for this class the entirety of my time here. I don't want anyone else claiming you before I do.”
So, Carol was fine. She was fine and the fact that she repeated that constantly, a mantra in her head, probably should have raised some red flags, but it didn't.
She published her books under her pen name, taught at the university, and did not let an unhinged graduate student blow up her life. Just for the fuck of it, it seemed like.

The woman from her dream/the window stood on their ‘welcome, ladies’ mat. She was taller than Carol thought, hair shorter than in her dream, and she was so very real. She craned her neck to find Carol in the gap.

Other than the fact that Carol haven’t told the woman her name, something felt off about her.

Unfortunately, Carol could only watch helplessly as the garment fell away from the woman's flawless skin. From her vantage point, Carol could see the woman's breast in outline – taut skin, pink nipples, and a devastating lack of a tanline.
The two books in her hand fell onto her towel with a double thump. The woman's eyes slowly met her own in amusement. Carol immediately glanced away in embarrassment – it was a miracle she didn't give herself whiplash.
Europeans and nude beaches shouldn't mix – or, at least, that was Carol Sturka's opinion before a literal Polish model got her claws into her sunburnt skin.
