Catra unabashedly scans her up and down, grinning.
“Hey, Adora. Nice seahorses.”
Adora feels her cheeks burning, and wishes she could blame the mid-morning sun. “Hey, Catra,” she replies weakly. “Nice—” face? Eyes? Skin? That’s a lot of skin. Everything sounds wrong— “swimsuit. Too?”
Thank God Finn is under the water.
Catra leans back, basking in the sun. Rivulets of water trail down the curve of her body, down to where her slight stretch draws Adora’s eye, to her hip, to her waist, to her stomach, to her—
Eyes.
Adora snaps back to her eyes. Which are still open. And still looking at her.
Oh, no.
Summer is meant to be a time to relax and recover. That’s what Adora’s heard, at least. But with a calendar chock-full of activities for a rambunctious twelve-year-old, a full-time job to pay the bills, and a husband whose idea of “helping” is finding more jobs for her to do around the house, Adora is officially drowning.
For the first time in years, Hordak does something to help. He hires a local college senior to be Finn’s nanny, for when Adora can’t “keep up”. It’s not her fault he chose the hottest woman on Earth.

Falin’s reverent whisper floats up from her place between Marcille’s legs. The words come out so sweetly that Marcille thinks she might lose herself in them. The tireless work of Falin's fingers does little to tether her to reality.
“But since everything happened, I can't stop thinking about it.” There's breath against her too now; Marcille shudders, impatient for Falin’s tongue. “I need to taste you. I need to have it. I need—”
Then, as though she cannot contain herself any longer, Falin sinks her teeth deep into the flesh of Marcille's thigh.

Now the world is supposedly right again, Marcille realizes that she doesn't always know how to handle the remnants of the dragon still residing within Falin.
It doesn't take long for her to discover that it sure knows how to handle her.

Summary
There's a yawn from somewhere above, soon followed by a tired, gravelly, practically husky voice. "Glimmer, fuck… What the fuck is going— oh, hey."
Adora's attention is immediately drawn away from Glimmer and toward the owner of that voice. Standing there in the door frame is none other than Glimmer's date.
Adora's stomach instantly does somersaults.
Of course the woman Glimmer brought home is here too. Of course she's stunning. Even in the dark, it's clear she's got sharp features and bright eyes to match her unreasonably attractive voice. She tilts her head to the side as if she's still trying to make sense of what she's witnessing. Right, she's taking in this horrifyingly humiliating predicament.

Determined to somehow adjust to life as an amputee, Adora is ill-prepared for the world that awaits her.
That includes the struggles that come with relearning how to move around, the social pain of trying to interact with strangers, and falling flat on her face in front of Catra, Glimmer’s positively stunning fuckbuddy.

If it's all just a means to an end, then this is how it goes: with Not-Adora winding an arm up and around Catra's shoulder blades, with her other hand resting on Catra's waist, and with her desperate, silent whimpers betraying her pent up fervor.

"They're probably just mentally ill, Glimmer. There's no way either of them are actual, living... doll people."
"So what? This is still the most interesting thing that's ever happened to us! They obviously need help, why not go along with it and see where it goes?"
Catra looks back at Glimmer. It's a terrible mistake. Her eyes are wide and desperate like a puppy's.
"You seriously want us to get involved with them?"
"Yes!" Glimmer cries.
Catra groans.

Summary
Adora spent so long using the same mirror on herself whenever Catra wasn't in the room. That mark. It meant Catra. Adora had been so sure. She'd stare at it for minutes at a time and feel warmth bloom in her chest.
Now that warmth is gone, replaced by something closer to lead. There's someone better waiting for Catra. There's someone who, according to the very system Adora subscribes to, is guaranteed to love her in a way Adora fundamentally cannot.
With that heartbreaking realization lodged firmly in her throat, she forces out the only word she can. "Oh."

Friends though they are, Catra and Adora couldn't be more different; the recent marks on their skin are a stark reminder that the universe seems to agree. The simple reality is that Catra will never be Adora's soulmate, nor will Adora ever be Catra's. For most, this reality would be fine.
It probably even would be fine... if only they weren't so deeply in love.

It's probably a little too harsh. Adora's eyes go wide with something Catra isn't sure she's ever seen her show before: fear. But that isn't Catra's problem. That's the whole point, isn't it? They aren't each other's problem anymore.

After being sexually assaulted, a shaken and lost Adora feels she has no one to turn to but her now ex, Catra. Catra learns to show kindness to others, and Adora, hopefully to herself.
