Simon isn't wearing a wedding ring, but he's quick to point out that Baz is. It's a challenge for him, seeing if he can lure Baz somewhere private.

Snow unleashes an agitated groan. Merlin, I don’t know how the boy can manage to keep up such a froth for so long. (Though I’ve somehow managed to keep up an erection for this long, so I’m not one to speak on the matter of indecorous stamina.)
“You’ve never offered to tutor me in anything before!” he yammers.
“Precisely.” I curl my lip at him. “So don’t expect me to ever be so generous with my offers of elucidation ever again.”
Baz gets caught with a dildo up his arse, which results in an awkward conversation about the benefits of anal stimulation.

Adulthood is supposed to be Simon Snow’s happily ever after. Instead, he’s adjusting to mundanity as well as a former Chosen One could - awfully. (Honestly what the fuck is he doing with his life?) At twenty-three he thinks he’s done with the adventures. The problem is that trouble tends to look for Simon.
This time he’s taken back to Watford School of Magicks. To open the Third Gate, slay the Sixth White Hare, and maybe find the fairies in the process. Meanwhile, the NowNext are setting up shop in London, his ex-girlfriend is unofficially a vampire slayer, his best friend’s in love with a Normal, said Normal is still cursed and running out of time, the dead spots are closing (maybe Simon isn’t as Normal as he thought), and on top of all of it - Baz is back in the country after being abroad for several years, looking good enough to eat.
And Simon is still hopelessly in love with him.

Imagine a world where Baz’s father is a little more paranoid about Baz being outed as a vampire and decides to protect him after he’s bitten by keeping him home and homeschooling him.
Everything that happens in this story is a ripple effect of this decision. Baz and Simon never meet. Malcolm never marries Daphne, too afraid to bring any third party into their home. With no Baz to invite Simon home for Christmas, and nobody having any knowledge that Simon can share his magic, Simon is attacked that Christmas day by the mage, who tries to kill him for his magic (Penelope calls in the Coven to save him). Simon’s magic is greatly diminished but not completely gone: the mage managed to drain most of the magic out of Simon, but the Coven shut down the part of Davy that can hold magic, rendering him Normal, and the humdrum was never heard from again, nobody knows why. None of this is in the story, but it sets the stage.
