Or, Merlin is a dragonlord, the son of the dragonlord Balinor who rules over the dragons in the North. Arthur is the prince Merlin is instructed to kidnap. Balinor is the exasperated father and general who just wanted to legalize magic but accidentally set his son up with the child and heir of his greatest enemy.

Merlin slowly blinked the sleep out of his eyes, trying to remember why he felt such an intense urgency to get up. The sheets on the suspiciously soft bed were warm and inviting, and not conducive to getting up early. Somehow he managed to rouse himself and came upon the distressing realization that he did not know where he was.
[Merlin wakes up in a bed that he does not remember next to a man he is positive he’s never seen before in his life. Our favorite sorcerer is shocked (and incredulous) when he finds out that no, he did not accidentally sleep walk into the palace, and yes, he does actually know these people even if he has no recollection of them.
