There was something more important though and her fingers were trembling, when she called up the Normandy’s data. For a second she hesitated, almost embarrassingly anxious, then she swallowed thickly and hailed the ship.
Nothing. Silence answered her and then after a few heart-wrenchingly long seconds the screen flickered red to announce that the attempt to establish a connection had failed. She sunk back into the pillows, staring numbly at the words that were burning themselves into her brain. Of course. What else had she expected? It didn’t mean that the Normandy had been destroyed, she reminded herself, fighting off the fear threatening to take over her mind. Taking a deep breath, she rubbed her suspiciously wet eyes and pulled up a different window to type out a message instead.

Lieutenant James Vega has to live with his actions on Fehl Prime. An entire colony died because he chose the intel over the people. He'd prefer to drink his leave away in a bar and return to duty as dulled to emotion as possible, but Anderson has other ideas. He finds himself recruited for a surprising assignment; personal security for his hero. She's been mistreated, attacked, betrayed and nearly killed. It's James' job to ensure that no further harm comes to her. He'll take his duty more seriously than anyone could expect.

“Hey..Vik..” When V saw his face practically light up, she’d be lying if she said it didn’t make her feel better. His voice was the one she wanted to hear the most, and the one she was the most scared to hear. Hoping and praying he wouldn’t reject her like the rest of her “friends”.
After giving him a brief run down of what has transpired and why she was gone for 2 years, the words she was hoping to hear were finally said.
