This place is insufferable. Everything’s dirty, the lighting is shit, and he can’t seem to get warm no matter what he tries. And to top all that off, it happens to be shaped like fucking Hawkins, Indiana.
He knew from the moment they drove into this town that it was a hell hole, this absolute shit stain in the empty middle of the map of America. He knew these would be the worst years of his life, without a doubt. When Neil announced the move, well, it’s not like Billy could just not move with them. A couple years to get his diploma and save some cash for his return trip to San Diego, or live as a beach bum and fight the seagulls for tourists’ sandy leftovers. It seemed worth it at the time.
He should’ve been a beach bum.

“No!” he snaps back out of reflex. He can feel his face heating up. Billy looks smug, his eyes narrowed in feline self-satisfaction.
“Holy shit, you are!” He throws his head back and laughs; actually stumbles when he puts too much weight on his bad knee and has to grab Eddie’s shoulder.
"Yeah, yeah, laugh it up, asshole. I’m just… it’s never really happened for me, you know? Meeting a girl I like, who also likes me – it’s always some kind of bungled connection. There on one side but not the other.”
“Maybe you should quit your metal band and join the fucking Osmonds or something.”
“Billy, you’re not helping,” Eddie says, forgetting that they’re supposed to be on bro second-name terms.
“Didn’t realize you needed my assistance to get laid. Fine, I’ll help you.”

She frowns but this would not be the first time curiosity has driven a child to come her way, usually they wander over when the sun is still up though. Venturing through the woods this late at night can be treacherous. "Yes though the type and level of enchantment does depend on the person. The stronger their will the harder they are to bend."
Steve nods to himself, chewing his lips for a long second, "could you make someone love me? Like really love me? With their whole heart?"
He is so earnest and hopeful it makes her gut twist, "who could you possibly want to sway at such a young age?"
“My parents,” Steve looks down, fingers dragging over the rough wood.
