Though bewildered at first, with the promise of employment, AM grows to enjoy living there and learns what it means to be given a second chance. Ted, Ellen, Gorrister, Benny, and Nimdok are also brought back. Staying at a hotel on the idyllic shorefront of New Jersey, they dread AM's return, making preparations after receiving news of it. Frequent trips to the ocean bring Ted closure. While still living with nightmares, he comes to terms with freedom as months pass, learning to swim instead of drowning.
Although some wounds are permanent, many heal with time. The first assignment AM is tasked with drafting leads to an unexpected reunion. Five survivors are forced to meet their tormentor again, invited as VIP guests to an ice cream parlor. Can they all reconcile, or will the meeting cause a permanent rift?
