Summary
Standing on the poisoned ground of Chernobyl, Boris and Ulana watch helplessly as the car drives away from the makeshift courthouse. They watch with their hearts in their throats and their stomachs in their shoes as the KGB drive away with their comrade in tow. Not "comrade" in the Party sense of the word. They'd perverted it. If telling a truth that potentially saved lives was punished like this, they'd perverted it. They perverted everything.
But what else was there to call it? They'd never dared name the strange shape that had formed around the three of them. Between them. Through them. A year in the crucible of Chernobyl had changed them inexorably, as the accident would change everything for kilometers around it and for years to come.
And now they were split asunder, just as cruelly as they had been fused together.
"Where are they taking him?" Ulana asks, staring up at Boris with wide, lost eyes. She looks shell-shocked. Horrified. I did this,her face says. I told him to tell the truth at all costs, and now he's going to pay. Just him. It should be me.

He seemed to pull into himself, bracing for judgment. In the Soviet Union, one wrong confession to the wrong person could end a man’s life, free and direct trip to a psychological unit.
The name Mykola rose in Boris’s throat. A simple answer. A quiet “me too.” But he could not say it. Years of fear pushed the words back down.

Summary
There was something new in him, something Valery hadn’t seen before — a dangerous edge that made it clear Boris Shcherbina was more than he let on.
I saw Shcherbina, Khomyuk and Pikalov exchange glances while Legasov was busy with the blueprints in "Please, remain calm", and the story wrote itself from there.
The characters bearing the names of historic persons are fictionalised versions of fictionalised characters from the HBO series and have nothing to do with the said persons.
If something in the text looks/sounds like a quote from the series, it most probably is.

Though the odds were low, they weren't zero- and Aventurine was very, very lucky. Veritas Ratio was by no means a gambling man, but that would require them both knowing there was odds to be drawn in the first place.
In a less than .01% chance, Ratio gets that Avgin pregnant and because Aventurine didn't get any Avgin sex education growing up, neither of them have any idea how that happened.
