Summary
In November of 1983, Steve is forced to confront a few realities. One being that monsters are real. They steal people from their homes and from pools and come out of ceilings. The other reality being that he’s an asshole. And well, he can only change one of those, so it’s time to ditch the friends that make him the worst version of himself and find some new ones.
After a mishap at school, freshman Gareth Emerson ushers Steve into a world he'd only been partially aware of, full of fantasy and laughter. He's unsure about senior Eddie Munson, who doesn't seem to believe he's changed. He hopes to change his mind and avoid more monsters, and maybe along the way he'll learn to love himself too.

“Alright, well–I still think we should check you out later. Looks like you took a real beating.”
Steve’s shoulders raised and fell.
“Like I said, it looks worse than it is.” Steve was surprised he’d manage to utter such a remarkable lie. It was about as bad as it looked, he just wouldn’t admit to it.
_Post Chapter 2: Steve is concussed and Hopper refuses to let him suffer alone.

Zack and Danny do not get along, and that's putting it mildly. Out of all the floor masters, those two have the worst feud among them. It's impossible for the two to be in the same room without a fight happening and people almost dying.
That said, when Rachel comes to him in a fury of panic and concern for Zack, he thinks she's just overreacting again. She does this all the time when it comes to the walking mummy that is Zack, but this time is different. This time, it's much much worse.
