For Diluc to be born a phoenix to a family like this puts a price on his head that you, at this age, couldn’t possibly understand.

“Right. Well, Emil usually can keep a secret, but in the off chance he does tell the rest of Mondstadt’s nobility and questions start coming your way, let me know so I can dissuade the ru–”
“I don’t see why we need to deny it.”
Kaeya almost drops his coin. “You…what?”
“I receive a few proposals often, though usually Adelinde throws them out before I can read them. But the letters bother you as well, correct?”
“I mean, a little bit, yes–”
“And I have no intention of marrying any time soon either, nor any romantic prospects. Let them think we’re courting one another.”
Kaeya and Diluc are at a standstill, unable to stay away from each other, unable to ask each other to really stay. A chance to reconcile comes in the form of a fake relationship, proving that sometimes, you just need a spark to finally set things in motion.

There's a reason why Alphas and Omegas were always separated. Ever since he'd presented, Diluc had been subject to the scrutiny and fear of 'what if' whenever he interacted with alphas, from others and from himself. It's difficult to trust in a world set against you.
Still, even after things happen, he finds there's at least one exception. Now he's just not sure if it's because they're meant to be because of chemistry, or if they actually are.

Kaeya finds himself on the end of a cliff, scrambling to return to the top and be normal. Diluc no longer can pretend that he doesn’t feel. Both of them circle each other, not wanting to be the first to give in – a complicated story on it’s own without the backdrop of a monster on the loose and Mondstadt trying to be competent to conquer another horror, this time in their walls. With the world closing in around them, they learn to fight together once more to save Mondstadt, but this time, not leaving each other behind to fend in the cold.

Diluc smiles fondly and reaches out to tuck a stray lock of hair from Kaeya’s face, “I know it’s hard to trust me, and I have a lot to make up for. But I love you, Kae, and I never stopped. Please give me the chance to show you.”
“I never not trust you, Luc,” The omega retorts, “You’re one of the most excellent people in Mondstadt, how can I ever doubt you of anything-”
“Do you trust me when I say I love you?” Diluc’s voice lowers.
Kaeya flinches, then sheepishly averts his gaze, “I…I suppose you aren’t lying, but…”
“See, that’s the problem,” Diluc’s gaze softens as he caresses Kaeya’s cheeks, “You think you don’t deserve my love, and we’re going to fix that. I’m giving my all to show you how much I love you, and how far I’m willing to go to prove it.”

Summary
Diluc has experienced unimaginable losses in the last three years. Some were at the hands of fate, and some were the fault of his own negligence. His hostility and dark rage have cost him more than he would have ever been willing to lose.
Lost in his own grief, though, he never realized that he wasn't the only one suffering.
He doesn't need to repent. He knows no one blames him for his actions but himself. But that won't stop him from making up for it anyway.
Diluc and Kaeya may have lost each other and felt their worlds crumbling around them in very different ways, but that won't stop them from recovering together.
