Eddie shot him a glare that would have been a lot more effective if his ears weren’t still a little red. “Buck—”
“What?” Buck grinned. “I’m just saying, for a guy who acts all tough—”
Eddie grabbed a shirt and threw it at his face.
Buck laughed, catching it easily. “Violence? Wow. That’s how you treat your boyfriend?”
Eddie froze. The word.
It still felt new. Strange in the best way.
He glanced toward the locker room door, lowering his voice. “You’re going to get us caught.”
Buck softened immediately, stepping closer. “No, I’m not,” he said quietly. “I’m being careful.”

The woman followed her gaze only to catch Eddie staring at Buck with his jaw slack completely distracted by the way Buck’s shoulders flexed under his gear as he leaned into the kitchen.
Eddie blinked too late while yanking his eyes away with his cheeks heating.
The old woman’s eyes widened knowingly. She whispered again softer this time.
“Ohhh. Are they a couple? Because if not…”
she gasped.
“..that boy is so in love with him.”
Hen slapped a hand over her mouth with her shoulders shaking with laughter.
“What?”
Eddie frowned with his cheeks coloring.
“What’s so funny?”
“Nothing”
Hen croaked while trying not to lose it.

Summary
Eddie Diaz was a very secretive person, the rest of the 118 knew it from the moment they met him. He was reluctant to tell them anything about his personal life, with the slight leeway he allowed with his son.
Obviously, they had attempted to dig for more information at first, but after almost 2 years of vague responses, they had given up. They resolved that they would never receive a full debrief on the life of Eddie Diaz.
That is, until a call goes bad and suddenly Bobby has to call the husband nobody knew he had to come visit him in hospital.
There were a lot more questions to answer than before.

In the wake of so much change it's inevitable that the dynamic between Buck and Eddie has transformed into something different. While they are blind to it everyone else is noticing the way they have fallen into a rhythm that looks a lot less like "best friends" and a lot more like a relationship.
It takes overly invested friends, a very observant sister, and a lot of tequila for them to finally stop pretending that their "normal" is what everyone else calls falling in love

Something had changed between those two freaks while they were in Nashville and Howard ‘Chimney’ Han knew it. He would bet his captaincy on it, his life even, that Buck and Eddie had come back from the firefighter games having finally figured out their shit.
The problem was, Chimney’s known for making jokes about the nature of their friendship. A little ‘stop annoying your boyfriend Buckley he’s got a job to do’ or a ‘Diaz, your heart eyes are showing, back to the task at hand please’ was thrown out regularly by the captain and it was usually followed by an eye roll and dismissal from the two men.
To everyone else they were acting the same, but Chimney knew. He could see it, the twinkle in Buck's eye whenever he looked at Chim with the smallest hint of a smirk - like he knows something Chimney doesn’t. Eddie’s little raised eyebrow and tilted head, a smug smile on his annoyingly handsome face that held so many secrets.
It was, quite frankly, driving him a little insane.

Summary
He can’t handle standing next to Eddie for however long it takes to clean the engine, he just can’t. He’s going to lose it. And he’s going to lose Eddie, too, because he’ll inevitably either kiss him or confess his undying love. He can’t even guarantee he won’t just drop down on one knee and propose.
“Oh, yeah, I’ll be right there, Bobby!” Buck yells before dropping his rag into the bucket and taking off towards the loft, leaving Eddie standing there dumbfounded.
“Buck, no one was calling for you!” he shouts, exasperated. Buck ignores him and bounds up the stairs.
Or: Buck realizes he's in love with Eddie shortly before a 24 hour shift. Out of fear of accidentally confessing his love, Buck tries to avoid him at all costs. If only Eddie wasn't so derermined to talk to him.

Oh, god, Buck has retrieved his clipboard from wherever in Eddie’s house he’d stashed it last time. He’s waving it around as he speaks.
“Information about my spouse,” Eddie says blankly.
Buck looks confused. He flips through the pages on his clipboard. “No, look, we definitely-”
“Not Shannon,” Eddie interrupts. “My current spouse.”
Buck, understandably, looks even more confused. Then he seems to actually comprehend what Eddie is saying, and he shoots him a devastated look. “You’re- you’re married? When? To whom?”
“I… I didn’t know I was married. I don’t. I don’t think I am? But they seem to think I am. And they think…” Eddie pauses. Wets his lips. “I think… I think they think I’m married to you.”
Buck and Eddie get married the night of Chimney's bachelor party. Buck and Eddie do not know they got married the night of Chimney's birthday party. At least, they don't until months later, when Chris' new school asks Eddie for documentation of his spouse: one Mr. Buck Diaz.

The damn lawsuit
If he could, he’d never in a million universes file that lawsuit. The lawsuit didn’t solve anything, actually it made things worse. He lost everybody. Even Maddie because she chose Chimney over him. Of course she would. Who in their right mind would choose him? No one. No one ever has.
All he wanted was his family back. Why couldn't they see that? Now all he has is an empty apartment. An apartment that used to float with joy, laughter, love.
Thinking of those memories actually put a smile on his face after the day he just had. They won't ever be like that again, because he ruined it just like he ruins everything. Why couldn’t he just wait it out? Just wait for Bobby to say he can come back? Instead he chose to sue the department, and Bobby.
