Summary
Mako taint remained one of those aspects of city life that had faded more or less into the background; for a time it had seemed like something that Tifa would never be able to overlook. Nibelheim had never been this bad – even during that period before the fire; here Mako was omnipresent and unavoidable. So many people cooked with only the most potent spices and these attempts never quite worked. Nothing seemed able to truly last against the encroaching, persistent odor.

Blood rushed to Tifa's cheeks; she was unable to stop herself watching as Aeris delved into the bag retrieving the pink dress and red bolero jacket she'd been wearing before. The martial artist abruptly noticed she was being watched out of the corner of the other's eye, and snapped her gaze away hastily.
Aeris is into Tifa; Tifa realizes she's into Aeris as they begin their pursuit of Sephiroth and are drawn into the web of events with grave implications for the future of the Planet.

She didn’t think Makoto was the kind of girl to be into roses and flower language, sure, because she’s just so proper and ladylike all the time (except for as Queen— ironically enough). But the enthused way she explains is just so fitting. She gets this bright cadence to her voice that reminds Ann of lilies or sunflowers and is so different from her usual stern, commanding alto.
“You’re actually really cute,” Ann says, watching the way Makoto turns the ring over in her hands.
… which is evidently the absolute wrong thing to say, because Makoto looks like she’s just been shot.
