  1. Summary

"All the world's a stage. The men and women, merely players."

Collection for all my RevArc-verse fic, because kitsunerei88's sandbox is delightful. General idea is pieces set in the background of the series, and expanding to the world at large with a specific focus on the Kowalski family.

  2. Summary

"Two things in America are astonishing: the changeableness of most human behavior and the strange stability of certain principles. Men are constantly on the move, but the spirit of humanity seems almost unmoved." - Alexis de Tocqueville

A story of how the Kowalski family went from one no-name No-Maj baker and a secretary witch to, as Isaac Chiu put it, "Near legendary...it was like meeting a Kennedy." A story of Wizarding America across three generations. A story of the twentieth century, in all its good and evil.

While walking along a road, a sage saw a man planting a carob tree. He asked him: "How long will it take for this tree to bear fruit?" "Seventy years," replied the man. The sage then asked: "Are you so healthy a man that you expect to live that length of time and eat its fruit?" The man answered: "I found a fruitful world, because my ancestors planted it for me. Likewise I am planting for my children." - Talmud, Ta'anit 23a

    Summary

This doesn’t seem to be the right order to Celine. Mi-Yeong is going to die and leave her here. If anyone should get to ask for favours, it should be her.
But she doesn’t say that, because this is the love of her life.

Instead, she says “What? I’ll do anything!” She’s stupid that way.

“You have to love her. No, Celine, look at me. I’m ordering you! I’m the leader and—” A horrible, choking cough “—I’m saying that you will, that you have to. You have to.”

    Summary

To call it a conversation probably is technically correct, but it's probably correct mostly on that technicality. Most onlookers would likely favor a different descriptor—lecture, perhaps, or monologue, with occasional interjections. Perhaps an onlooker with a particularly keen or nasty sense of humor might even arrive at the term shovel talk, although that’s really not quite accurate. If anything, it’s a sort of inverted shovel talk, one in which the mother seems to be expending quite a deal of effort attempting to convince the third party that said third party’s time and effort is, quite frankly, better spent on almost anything other than looking to the well-being of her son—

“Archivist,” Camilla Hect interjects. “The ceremony is tomorrow.”

The night before Camilla officially becomes Palamedes’ cavalier, she and the Archivist have a discussion. It doesn’t go the way the Archivist was hoping.

    Summary

"Usually the ailments that knocked Palamedes out for a week were only a mild annoyance to his cavalier. Sometimes she could keep going so well that she convinced him she wasn't sick at all."

Camilla and Palamedes during the events of "The Meaning of the Word".

    Summary

It took them entire weeks to coax intelligible words out of Nona beyond “no,” and “yes,” and “don’t want” (those ones have been making regular appearances at the kitchen table since nearly day one), and close-enough approximations of each of their own names—but as soon as they did make it beyond those basics, the first place they ended up was, “I love you.” Nona says “I love you” more than anything else by orders of magnitude, more even than “don’t want” at the kitchen table, and she reaches out to touch each of them with the thoughtlessness of breathing, and none of them are ever really sure what to do with all of it.

Camilla, Palamedes, and Pyrrha have, between the three of them: two bodies, one shitty apartment on a dangerous planet, the unwelcomely close attention of a mostly-unfriendly militia on every sudden move they make, a teenaged infant they don’t understand to feed and care for, minimal collective experience with domestic life, and not enough time to learn how to manage it all. They make a fair go of things anyway.

    Summary

It's not that Kiana didn't want her younger sister to become the Warden's Hand. It's that she watched Camilla and Palamedes grow up, and it was too hard for her to disregard the immensity of what they are to one another – something they both seemed hell-bent on doing for years.

And then, when they do choose to regard it, Kiana learns she truly had no idea of what she'd been witnessing for years.

I could have said a hundred things. But all I said was, “I never said that.”
