"Don't be childish, boy."
He's sixteen and he's terrified. He's the youngest Golden Guard ever but he's not even old enough to vote. How is he not a child?
He hides under his bed and hates himself with a passion he didn't know he had.
He wants Uncle to open his door, to say he's sorry for letting the curse hurt him again. He wants Uncle to forgive him, to thank him for trying to help, to roll his eyes and go "there, there" while patting him on the head, to drop a tissue onto his lap with a playful smile splitting his chapped lips. He wants Uncle to hug him and rub his back and to roast marshmallows with him over the fire seasoned by Hunter's potion ingredients. Because Uncle never lets him have marshmallows, and Hunter didn't even know what a marshmallow actually was until Luz demanded Eda buy some for him to try.
Oh.
He wants Eda. He misses Eda so badly he aches.

Or, Hunter's fucked up again, and now that he knows what it's like to feel safe, everything is so much worse.

Summary
After the events of Hollow Mind, Hunter is taken in by Eda and stays at The Owl House.
He's coping well, yup. He's coping in totally healthy, completely normal, and definitely not concerning ways.
Luz is also coping well! She's fine, she's so fine it's ridiculous.

Summary
Hunter has a rather conflicted relationship with his scars. They remind him of Belos, who is the reason he has them, but he also can't get rid of them. He's either going to have to accept them (and his body) as part of himself, or he's going to have to... actually, that's not clear. He'll have to do something else.

She pushed the door open. Luz steeled herself and stepped through. As soon as she saw the kitchen, though, she understood exactly why Amity hadn’t been able to explain what had happened.
Hunter was huddled underneath the kitchen table, knees pressed to his chest, inching himself farther into the crevice as Willow crouched beside him. Hunter was also sat on top of the counters and kicking his legs back and forth against the cupboard doors as a fountain of words gushed out from his mouth. Not to mention, Hunter was halfway into the fridge, munching on an apple. He was sitting on a barstool with his eyes glazed over. He was gesturing wildly with a steak knife as he shouted at Vee.
He was doing all of this, because somehow, against all logic, he was in five places at once. Because there were five separate Hunters in the kitchen. Because Luz had messed up the potion one two three four five different ways, and if she’d learned one thing from Eda, besides identity theft, it was that potions were precise, they were exact and they were specific and they never did the same thing once they were messed with.
“Oh my King,” she mumbled.

“And you’re having trouble thinking of some?” Luz asks, propping her feet in his lap.
“It’s not that I can’t think of any,” Hunter says, cradling his journal. He rubs the soft leather cover, grazing his fingers over the bumps of the many vinyl stickers Luz has given him. “It’s that I’m thinking of too many.”
“Oh.”

Hunter isn’t used to adults being kind to him, or anyone older than him, really. They ignore him at best and loath him at worst, and the only adult he thought truly loved him lied and more. He is used to being pushed aside, put down, held to a standard he will never reach, but he’s used to it by now. He's used to adults being like that.
Camila, as she will come to be in most things, is the exception.

Summary
Hunter finds himself in the impossible situation of waking up in the past, and being himself, unhesitatingly throws himself under the bus in order to help the people who, in his mind, he owes so much more than just his life to.
All Luz sees is a desperate, hurt child soldier who was ready and willing to throw himself into the boiling sea if she so much as hints that it would make her, King, or Eda happy. This sufficiently worries her.
Eda just desperately wants to know who this kid who showed up out of nowhere and cursed himself for her is. Lilith's kid? Belos'? Raine's? Who the heck would have a kid who latches onto the Owl Lady!?
Everyone else is wondering just what the heck Eda did to inspire such vicious loyalty from the former Golden Guard who, at this point, they're almost certain is her son. Lilith most especially.
