Xia Fei lolls his head over the back of the couch, bangs flipping over his forehead to reveal the Badtz-Maru themed bandaid Vein had stuck on him earlier. He silently gnaws at the lollipop in his mouth as he stares at Vein from upside down. For someone lounging in the maw of a beast, he always looks more relaxed here than he does in the studio, drunk or not. “Umm. Democracy?”
Vein barks out a laugh that comes out sharper and more genuine than he expects. Oh, sweet, naive Xia Fei. Kid’s smarter than he lets on, but not always when it comes to Vein. Then again, it’s partially this that makes him all so amusing. Vein bares his teeth into a large grin, tongue and incisors and all, and relishes in how Xia Fei stops chewing on the candy after a straight half hour to gawk. “With my teeth, sunshine.”

Summary
So Vein doesn’t trust anybody. How could he? He hasn’t survived a quarter of a century walking barefoot through hell by being naïve. If anything, he prefers animals. They’re predictable. They demonstrate their intent with raised hackles and bluff charges. They’re simpleminded, concerned only about their young and where their next meal is coming from. If Vein had the time, he’d probably own a dog or two. It’d be a nice change of pace, having a companion that doesn’t have a malicious bone in its body. He has ample evidence in the shape of stab-wounds and bullet-holes to prove that the hearts of men are tainted with corruption. They always have been.
But God, (or whatever cosmic entity is running things out in the ether), has made a delightful habit of shitting in his dinner. It’s as if he’s got a standard-bearer hellbent on undermining him, or a trio of witches pointing notched knuckles toward Birnam Wood, because every lesson he’s ever learned fizzles out like a one-hit wonder the moment he lays eyes on a certain blond.

When Vein first laid eyes on Xia Fei, his traitorous heart stuttered in his chest. Simply out of minor infatuation with a pretty face, of course, but it was surprising enough to startle him. Xia Fei came to him as this awkward, reticent college student in need of a job and, despite the nervous energy vibrating his frame, seemed determined enough to be there.
“I heard you were hiring models here. So.” He keeps his eyes focused on something behind Vein’s head as he toys with the sleeve of jacket. “So here I am.”
Vein smiles, unable to contain his interest. “Here you are.”

Appalled as he was, he barely managed to notice the Chief Justice’s state of silence, who did not utter a single word throughout the whole trial.
Although the man surely wasn’t famous for his loquacity, the Iudex still never failed to intervene during trials, providing useful quips and suggestions.
Instead, all that could be heard coming from his throne was a deafening silence, the only sign of his presence being the heavy gaze piercing through the indicted’s skull.
Not even before— nor after, for that matter— the Oratrice had proclaimed her sentence, did the man speak up, merely standing up once everything was over and turning around with a flair, disappearing behind his throne.
And if Wriothesley still felt that piercing stare while he walked towards the Fortress of Meropide under a heavy downpour, he paid no mind to it, taking one last glance towards Palais Mermonia and then stepping into the elevator that would’ve taken him to his new home.

Senku thought more about the ‘hell’ bit of it all. For some reason, the sentimentality of the statement crossed his mind. He doesn’t even believe in God, nevertheless the concept of the afterlife or souls for that matter. But, at that moment he felt like Gen was his partner in crime. There was something sort of warm about condemning two souls together for eternity.
