There was light coming from the middle of the crowd, where the circle lay, and for a moment Fran wished that she was closer, that she could see — then the light exploded into a column, blue white scorching the high ceiling of the chamber. More lights lit up on the sides, one, two, three, four … It was like being trapped in a cage of lightning, with a torrent of electricity holding up the ceiling.
