“We don’t eat children,” Ghost finally mutters, because it’s annoying him, and his shoulders ache, and he can’t believe that rumor actually got any traction. Why would dragons eat children? They’re hardly more than a mouthful.
To his surprise, Soap laughs. “I ken,” he replies, grinning when Ghost turns to look at him. “And ye don’t keep virgins for a hundred years to ripen ‘em up, and ya don’t even hoard all that badly. I’m no’ daft.”
“Could’a fooled me,” Ghost mutters.
“Ye attacked me in the dead of night when I was asleep, used yer fuckin’ dark magic on me,” Soap snaps. “In a fair fight I’da won.”
Ghost snorts again, ashy and hot behind his mask. “Unlikely.”
“Take off these bonds and we’ll see then, eh?”

"All stories come from some'ere. They hold a fraction o' truth. The Ghost may no' be real. But after hearing all the stories, be'er t' air on the side o' caution, aye? So as no' t' get caught unawares by a giant monster in the middle o' the moor."
That made sense. The stories of monsters in the woods, over the moors, or in the lochs may be just to scare children and give the adults something to pass the time. But his father was right, better to assume it is real, and be respectful of it. After all, if there was such a thing as a giant beast covered in fur, that howls in the night and hunts over the land, capable of tearing animals to pieces and leave gouges in hard wood, John imagined it wouldn't appreciate being told it's just a folktale.

Summary
Carlos snakes a hand through his boyfriend’s hair and pulls his head back, biting on TK’s bottom lip and tugging it back. TK takes a couple deep breaths as he lets the scene settle around him.
Carlos’ brown eyes burn with carnal greed mixed with tenacity. His lip is slightly ticked up and his breaths are low and deep; his chest rising and falling as if he’s trying to breathe in all the air in the room.
With the unknown man temporarily forgotten, TK takes note of the fact that Carlos never looked back at the other man. He didn’t even consider the man in the slightest because his hands upon his boyfriend’s skin should be enough. Enough for the room to know, TK is his.
A grin splits TK’s face as the realization overcomes him.
Carlos doesn’t get jealous. He gets possessive.

Summary
For better or worse, TK inherited the Sight: the Strand family's ability to see ghosts. It's usually a benign thing, just a few extra strangers on the sidewalk that no one else can see. But it's marked his life in many ways, especially in his attempts at escaping it. By starting over in Austin, the plan was to be normal, and adjusted, and happy again. But Austin has ghosts of its own, and it doesn't take long for TK to realize that there's no outrunning who he is, especially when something nasty starts haunting his new found family.
