"I know it's normal." His voice is sharp, suddenly. "I know all of this is normal. The stages of grief, the timeline, the— I've read the literature. I know what's supposed to happen. I just don't understand why knowing doesn't make it hurt less."
Linda sets down her pen. "Because grief isn't an intellectual exercise, Jack. You can't think your way through it. You have to feel it."
"I don't want to feel it."
"I know."

Summary
Hours later – after blood and guts and a life saved on the kind of Hail Mary that makes her brain sing – Jack Abbot turns towards her and grins. Arms folded across his body and his eyes more than a little bit wild; like the mess of it all thrills him the same way it thrills her. "I'd heard you were good, Mohan," he tells her easily, "but hoo-boy, was that something to watch."

Summary
Since she’s finished treating his wound, Samira throws away her gloves and hands Jack his t-shirt, hoping he would put it on quickly. It was a tad bit distracting to see her sugar daddy randomly shirtless.
Jack and Samira had come to their agreement a few months prior.
Or...
That Mohabbot scene with context.

“You were young once,” Samira says, inserts the knife — “Did you ever find someone?” — and twists it.
She expects Robby to deflect, to reassure her that she’s not like him, that she won’t end up miserable and alone at her best friend’s, her ex-whatever’s, second wedding. Instead, he laughs and says, “You got me there.”

Summary
He saw what he had expected: fear mostly and pain of course, the raw emotions of any wounded animal. But there was something there that surprised him. It wasn't courage exactly, somehow that was the wrong word for it. Discipline. Some kind of tenacious inner strength that was unusual in someone so young. This was a girl who exerted an enormous amount of control over herself. All of it working overtime not to panic.
And yet, at the same time, she looked so impossibly fragile. Her wide blue eyes were so open, the fear so close to the surface it seemed like he could touch it if he were a bit closer. There were no walls up at all, no hint that she knew she should try not to look so much like prey. And the grip she had on herself, cost her dearly. Something inside of her seemed to be burning far too hot. Flames licking the feet of some virgin martyr.
His cock stiffened in his trousers.
“You heard my name.”

Summary
"My father would have liked you," she says softly.
"You think so?"
"I know so. He valued people who listened more than they spoke. Who paid attention." She gestures at the flowers around their feet. "Who found beautiful places and sought to share them."
"And your mother?"
Samira laughs. "My mother would say you are a knight with no lands, no title of significance, and no political value. A waste of time for me to be even conversing with."
—
Princess Samira has spent her life being the spare: invisible when it's convenient, controlled when it's not. But she didn't account for Sir Jack Abbot, a knight with nothing to offer but his sword, his life, and the way he looks at her like she's the only person in the world

Summary
(I couldn't bear watching Jack Abbot in pain any longer so I wrote him a safe space where he could slow down and rest, and somehow that included the space between my legs)
Jack finds himself stranded in a cabin in northern Sweden during a blizzard. For the first time in years, there's nowhere to go, nothing to manage, no crisis to solve. Just a woman who saved his life, a storm that won't quit, and the unsettling discovery of wanting something bad enough, and feeling safe enough, to reach for it.
“Wait,” he said, his voice low and rough. He rested his forehead on hers, his breath erratic. “I should probably mention I'm missing a few original parts.”
She pressed her hands to his chest, her dark eyes locking onto his.
“I noticed,” she said, a small smile touching her lips. “I think you’ve got more than enough parts to keep me busy, Jack.”

Summary
“This one is lopsided,” Jack says, stepping around the one she just pointed to, hands on his hips. His head is tipped as though he’s seriously evaluating an EKG and not a literal fucking tree. “It’ll lean once it’s weighted.”
Samira squints at it. It looks like a perfectly acceptable tree to her. It’s green. It’s tall. It’s also, most crucially, the closest one to the parking lot.
