Her hands shot out and she shoved the March Hare forcefully, pushing against his chest as hard as she could as her eyes squeezed shut. She felt him move away from her and heard the clatter of him falling to the floor.
And when Alice opened her eyes again, she found herself in Alfred's curtained-off infirmary room, standing on his cot, while Alfred coughed and choked for air on the floor. Her arms were still raised in front of her when she had pushed him and they trembled suddenly.
She had pushed the March Hare. She hadn't pushed Alfred, had she? She would never. Why was he on the floor?
