“AJ...I’ve gotta go,” she said as she put on her jeans-her a** looking as fine as ever.
“I know, I’ll let your Attending know you’re taking a few days off,” I assured her.
“Thank you,” and before she left she made sure to give me one of her savory and passionate kisses.
“I’ll miss you, you know,” I told her.

I was moving...to where...I did not know. All I could see were lights all around me, bright ones, and fuzzy blue and white figures moving around. I could see some eyes close to my body, some were dark brown while others were just...fuzzy. I felt my body losing energy, my tiredness causing my eyes to occasionally close and then open when I realized that something bad had just happened to me. I heard voices, some concerned and others angry. I felt warmness upon the area of my kidneys, then pressure coming from hands that I knew solely belonged to my dear friend and sister.
“Baby...my baby?” I cried, but I didn't know if my voice was heard or if my lips moved an inch. All I knew is that when I did remember that I had just gotten stabbed, all I could think of was my precious baby girl and how I didn’t want to lose her.Series

Summary
Mina and AJ do the Quadruple Heart Valve Replacement Surgery. Originally, this surgery was in episode 4x7, but I made it happen before Nic and Mina get stabbed. I also combined scenes from 4x8 and 4x9.

A few moments after starting the procedure, AJ found himself side glancing Mina as he kept on working. “You know what, Dr. Okafor?...Today is your lucky day. I believe that you are ready to lead this surgery,” and he looked around at the other doctors, who nodded in agreement. “Now, we are all here to work together, but you’ll direct us and insert the valves.” And he looked up at Mina and saw that she was a small bit hesitant. In AJ’s mind, she was more than ready-she knew the heart more than he did and she was even more than capable to be the head of the operation.
“You know the heart the same or even better than I do. You’ll do this operation with skill and finesse. You’re ready to let your wings soar, Okafor. We’re all here for you to catch you if you fall...which you won’t,” AJ assured. “You ready?”
“I’m always ready,” she firmly answered after taking a deep breath; then she walked around the table and took AJ’s place.Series

“Yeah...she was excited to make it for you…,” and she put her hand on his shoulder and added, “You know, she really cares about you AJ…” AJ looked at the hand on his shoulder, normally he’d get upset that someone touched him...someone other than Mina that is, but Nic wasn’t one to touch unless it was safe to do so, and he also knew that she wasn’t a threat.Series

I love that whatever you leave will remind me of you. And to be clear....I've seen how many closets you have and there's no way you have more clothes than me."

I looked at him, not yet convinced that this was a step I wanted to take so soon, especially since he could leave at any point of the night to go do some surgeries and whatnots. And perhaps AJ learned to read my mind too, because then he said, “I even told the boss man to not have me, or you, on call tonight. After being reminded of that long surgery we both did, Cain and Kim let us have our time off.”
Vulnerability...I needed to be vulnerable.
I gathered up all the courage I had and then slowly nodded my head, and then raised my eyes to meet his gaze. “Okay...but if you leave…” and I started to shake my head and looked away.
“I won’t. That is a promise. And just so you know...I'm not forcing you to do any of this. We can do something else if you like. I do have a plan 'B" and that's making some bread people. All the ingredients are already on the counter,” he assured, and then kissed my forehead.
