Summary
When Klaus wakes up in the afterlife, he can't believe his luck. Somehow, despite his checkered past and wobbly moral compass, he's made it into the Good Place, where he'll spend eternity with his dream soulmate in a dream neighbourhood.
Only there are two problems. The first is that he's pretty sure the architect of this neighbourhood has the wrong person. And if she catches on that Klaus doesn't belong with all the heroes and philanthropists here, he'll be sent to the Bad Place.
The second is that for the residents, this dream is starting to feel a lot like a nightmare...

Summary
It's been months since the last time Dave had any reason to raise his voice, but he has a finite window to close one more chapter, put the period at the end of one more sentence, so he shouts.
"Klaus!"
For a long moment, he's too late, the parentheses are going to stay open forever.
And then Klaus reappears in Dave's door, sunglasses held halfway to his face, looking mystified, a little scared.
"Please don't have palm tattoos," he says, and Dave laughs.

Prologue
“Her name was Delores. We were together for over thirty years.”
“Thirty years?” Klaus repeats incredulously. “Wow.” He draws the word out into a laugh. Their love lives could not be more different. “The longest I’ve ever been with someone was… I don’t know, three weeks? And that’s only because I was so tired of looking for a place to sleep.”
Klaus allows the memories to drift hazily, and surprises himself by feeling almost melancholy. What must it be like, to be with the same person for so long? Who could possibly stand to be around him for that length of time?
“He did make the most fantastic osso buco, though.”

Luther was forcefully thrown into consciousness.
His eyes were sealed shut with crust and he attempted to pull them apart. All the strength in the world and he only managed to expose a sliver of each.
Things were blurry. Cold. Quiet. The shallow ceiling above his cot was an excruciating shade of white. His teeth chattered.
There was no sunlight here.
Luther opened his mouth and tried to speak, but nothing came out. He tried again, his tongue cracked dry where it met his teeth, but his voice was absent from his tightened throat. He weakly flung his head to and fro, but his neck was heavy and unmoving too.
I’m still here. I’m still alive.
His breathing was shallow but steady, rhythmic where it lifted his massive, burdensome chest, and for that, he felt the unmistakable urge to sob gather in his lungs.

Summary
It's been years since the Hargreeves siblings have spoken to one another, but on their twenty-third birthday they manage to cross paths with each other a whole lot anyway. A canon-compliant (through the first season) prequel fic in the form of a flashback episode script.
I was an assistant who worked on The Umbrella Academy S1 on the writing side. After we wrapped I took my unused pitches, wrote a spec script, and uploaded it here after the show was released. A few months later, my script was a 2019 Austin Film Festival Semifinalist in the Drama Teleplay Spec category. I hope it tides you over til next season!
