Summary
Travis froze, napkin in his hand. He wasn’t used to this kind of affection, or any kind of affection, for that matter. This caused Sal to have to take the napkin himself, and wipe the food from his face. Travis was so unbelievably embarrassed and flustered at that moment, that he pushed him off, harder than he wanted to, and tossed the napkin on the tray, causing Sal to fall back onto the tile. Attention had been drawn to them, and Travis stood, making his way past the door to the cafeteria. Not before he heard Sal groan, “No problem, dude…” He went straight to the bathroom, feeling a mix of anger, confusion, and a twisted sense of righteousness.

Cringe salvis, somewhat like the bathroom scene (but not), and tons of denial

Summary
James didn't want to leave the cold solid bench-like rail, it was soothing, being so close but so far away from death. He didn't move, obviously. Regulus was sure to understand, right? He'd formed himself an identity, a talented risk-taker. Not as if this was out of character for him. If anything, he just put himself further into this box he couldn't escape from.
or
James needs help and Regulus isn't enough to convince him.

Summary
“Hello, you’ve reached New York City’s Crisis Hotline,” she says cordially, tapping her pen against her desk. Her eyelids are incredibly droopy. She dips her hand in a glass of water and gently rubs it on her face, praying she won’t end up falling asleep. “My name is Carol. What do you want to talk about this evening?”
There’s shuffling on the other end of the line. Then: “Um, hello, Carol.”
A boy’s voice. Hushed, young. She knows teenagers and young adults call the most, but it still breaks her heart every time. “Hi!” she tries again, this time with a little more chirpiness, waiting for a response.
“Um.” She can hear him swallow on the other line. “I guess—I guess I just wanted to talk about, I don’t know, just wanted to talk to someone, I guess.”

Summary
New Orleans, 1926: In a world of ink, paper, and rigid social lines, 21 year old Vincent Whittman is still a shadow who’s chasing the light. A former copyboy with a grey streak in his hair and a revolutionary invention in his satchel: the future of sight and sound.
After a brutal rejection from the city’s elite, Vincent finds an unexpected witness in Alastor: the magnetic Creole, King of Radio whose smile is as sharp as a razor and whose influence knows no bounds.
A glass of Sazerac, a note hidden under a coaster, and a cryptic quote from Walt Whitman. Vincent wanted to change the world; Alastor might just be the one to help him burn the old one down.

Summary
Vincent was late for their weekly bar get-together.
The very busy radio broadcaster worried for the disruption in his schedule. Not for any other, more sentimental reason, of course—what a silly idea!
Alastor left the bar in search of him only minutes later, finding Vincent somewhere he wasn't expecting:
In his bathroom—
Laying in a pool of his own blood.
