Fascinating. Bruce takes a deep breath so he doesn’t scream. He can feel every single piece of shrapnel, bullet fragment, and medical implant in his body trying to move toward the man, inching one millimeter at a time through his flesh.

Bruce would always remember exactly where he was, precisely what he was doing, when the concept of intelligent extraterrestrial lifeforms went from a likely possibility to a cold certainty.
Would always remember the way his skin had cooled and his heart raced when the Batcomputer’s monitors were taken over by intruders he did not recognize. There had been moments of sheer horror before Bruce had realised his screens hadn’t been the only ones taken over - that it hadn’t been a successful targeted attack on the ‘Cave.
It had been, Bruce would later insist, an attack on the entirety of humankind.

Bruce was used to taking care of himself. Even when Alfred was around, a large part of Bruce felt guilty relying on him too often. Alfred was his butler, not his parent, no matter how many nights young Bruce stayed up and prayed for it to be different.
Clark, on his end, can't stand to see Bruce alone.
