Riku felt as though he had been waiting his entire life to become a keyblade master—ever since the handle slid into his grip, ever since a tall, kind stranger had beckoned him to take it.
With the Mark of Mastery exam looming, Riku had never felt less deserving. He had shut his heart away for so long, he barely remembered the sound of its call—and as he struggled to learn to listen again, he began to understand just how much he still had to reckon with…and just how much it would ask of him.

Summary
Their skins were so close that Sora could feel the warmth coming off Riku’s, could feel the soft and tiny hairs that already touched. Maintaining eye contact, Sora closed the final inch.And the thing that had felt off-balance inside of him ever since they returned suddenly seemed to slot into place. Something tense that Sora hadn’t realised was there unwound, and that needy feeling he had been having for so long now suddenly felt eased, like the relief of drinking a large glass of cold water on a really hot day.

Summary
They told stories of the Ghost Pirate, of how he was more darkness than a wraith, gaping darkness that swallows light whole. They whispered tales about how he was betrayed by his lover and how he'd cut out his own heart to avoid the pain, had locked it away no one could find it.
There was a scar on Riku's chest above where his heart should be, that much was true. The rest, though - only Riku knew that. Only he knew about sea gods and rituals, things that locked Sora away from the ocean until he was all but disappeared. And Riku needed to believe Sora was gone, or his missing heart would ache.
Trust Sora to deny him this.

Summary
Riku looked at Sora with politely curious eyes. Cautiously friendly eyes. It might as well have been the same. And Sora never knew what to say anymore. That was his best friend and his best friend wasn’t remembering him. He didn’t even know how Riku could be okay, with everything severed like that. Sora wouldn’t be the same person if Riku had disappeared from his memories, every part of them was intertwined.
It was hard to yell at the boy you loved for sacrificing everything he had for you when he didn’t remember doing it.

Sora shook his head slowly, listlessly. “Is something else, Riku. Like,” he grimaced, bringing his fingers to his mouth as if he was going to cough or sneeze, but it passed. “Something wrong.”

Summary
When Riku was younger, he longed to grow up and be an adult. He hated being trapped, unable to go to the places he wanted to go or do the things he wanted to do because he was only a child. He always saw adulthood as a form of freedom, but the older he got, the more he realized it was just as much of a trap as being a child was.
It was that realization that motivated him to build the raft with Sora and Kairi so they could leave Destiny Islands. He wasn’t a child and he wasn’t an adult, so why not take advantage of that while he could before he was forced to settle for a simple life he would always feel resentment over?
Then the storm came.
A brief look through Riku's POV during the year Sora slept, the week they were back home on Destiny Islands, and during a break between their separate travels.
