She was halted on the edge of the settlement’s eastern border, and made to wait while reinforcements were called. All Alex knew, as he mounted his mule and cantered out alongside Kyle, was that she was white, she was coordinated, and she could speak in full sentences.

Due to a rare case of partialism, John and the tadpole are now Lubuzol, a young mind flayer who doesn't fit in amongst the other illithids of the colony. It turns out it's hard to be a mind flayer when you have a human code of ethics. Who would've thought?
(Lubuzol recounts their life from ceremorphosis, to befriending their first and only thrall, to the banishment that led to meeting Vers the eladrin at a tavern in Vaelan, Durpar.)
