Summary
Jean Grey was just exploring New York with some friends on a weekend off from school. It was just supposed to be a moment of teenage fun away from their teachers and guardians. A little harmless fun, despite Jean's reputation. Those plans were quickly dashed as their small gang was suddenly being chased through New York by Trask's men.
With one of her friends injured, and nowhere to turn for help, Jean makes a call.
She seeks sanctuary with our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.
The problem?
She hasn't talked to him since they saved each other's lives at the Department of Damage Control.

As if he knew she was thinking about him (and wouldn’t that be funny— Spider-Man, a telepath), her phone rang, the opening notes of the Star Wars Main Theme spilling out into the train car. Jean answered it before the noise could wake anyone.
“Hello?” She asked quietly. Drawing attention on the train was the last thing she needed right now.
“Hey Jean!” Peter’s voice crackled over the line. The sound of traffic muffled his voice.
“Are you calling me on the job again?” She asked in exasperation. “You should wait until you get home.”
“Nah!” Peter grunted, and yes, he was definitely swinging around the city right now. “Evil never sleeps, and neither do I, but that doesn’t mean I can’t make time for my favorite partner in crime.”TLDR: Jean Grey needs a big brother. Peter Parker needs someone to protect. They both need to figure their new world out before everything explodes.

And most recently, they learned she’s a big fan of Spider-Man. Emphasis on BIG.
She constantly denies the last one, no matter how obvious it is to everyone else. They thought it was a cute crush.
They didn’t exactly know just how…invested she was in him. But they will soon.

“Somewhere between neutralising contained threats to, like, genocidal aliens.”
“What exactly counts as contained threats?”
“Ah, now well that—that has its own little baby scale.”
“Yeah?”
“The scale there would be…” She makes a seesaw motion with a hand. “...armed robberies, drug cartels, general criminal activity to, you know, stopping the next megalomaniac villain of the week with delusions of grandeur from getting their hands on things like alien tech or, I don’t know,” she shrugs, scratches her chin idly, “nuclear codes, and the like. That’s more or less the size of potatoes you deal with, right?”

Maybe he has asthma, or maybe it's something else that she's equally unequipped for. Either way, she swallows down any remaining hesitation and crouches next to him, even pulls her phone out in case she needs to call 911. But then she sees his face as it lifts to meet hers.
His eyes are completely drained of any light, any color—just pitch black and bottomless.
MJ inhales sharply, a tight knot of fear forming in her chest, but then his voice comes out weak, soft, almost vulnerable, and it dissolves in an instant.
“MJ?”
