It was bizarre how much his relationships improved with distance, but they say absence makes the heart grow fonder. Still, he didn't feel them missing like an amputated limb until recently. Maybe it was Matt and Dan's impending retirement, as they had started asking him some uncomfortably pointed questions about children and pregnancy. Maybe it was Nicky's brand new German citizenship, tying him forever outside the country.
Or maybe it was the fact that Kevin Day had been traded to Chicago almost a year ago and he and Aaron still hadn't done more than one stilted coffee meet up three months after he moved.

“Juna! Wait! You're going the wrong way!” Bovi yelled after her sister, who was currently confidently marching towards a beige door neither of the siblings had previously ever seen before.
“Which way would be considered the wrong way, Bovi? Every way is the right way when you're exploring!” Juna turned around and stopped.
Behind the two sisters, their youngest brother Yopo, padded after them.
“We know where the white door goes; let's go that way!” Bovi said, standing next to her sister.
“Ugh, no. ADVENTURE!” Juna yelled as she took off running towards the beige door. Yopo and Bovi exchanged glances.
Yopo shrugged, his confusion being emphasized with notes of an oboe. "I mean, as long as it's fun. Right?"
Bovi knew she wouldn't be able to stop their sister, but her legs felt like two manta tails. Yopo grabbed her hand, and met her eyes through his tiger mask. Bovi closed her eyes and allowed her brother to lead her as they both followed Juna into the beige door.
Instead of the usual infinite space of swirling stars, there was pure pitch blackness.

Neil Josten is an idiot and he knows it. But joining the Palmetto State Foxes was probably the most idiotic thing he’s ever done in his entire life. And he’s done quite a lot of idiotic things. There’s only two things that Neil excelled at aside from Exy. Running and fighting. As he gets closer to the foxes and even closer to one particular hazel-eyed fox, Neil thinks it might be time to stop running altogether and focus on just fighting. Because he thinks he's finally found something and someone to stand his ground for.
Andrew Minyard has a big Problem with none other than the idiot that is Neil Josten. His rabbit had a lot of secrets and could lie easier than he could breath. Perhaps even easier than he could play Exy. And Andrew hated liars. And he hated Neil Josten more than any other liar he had ever met. And he especially hated Neil Josten for the fact that Andrew didn’t really hate the idiot at all. Because Neil was also probably the most honest liar Andrew had ever met. He was the first one to follow every single one of Andrew’s boundaries without question. He was the first one to never break a promise to him. Neil Josten was a Problem, but he was Andrew’s Problem. He was Andrew’s idiot. Andrew’s rabbit.
