She’s goading him, taunting, pulling him towards something promising, indiscernible to himself. She’s similar to Grian in that way. Her smile is sharp when she speaks. “Go big or go home, am I right?”
And Scar can tell she says it on purpose, he can see the smugness in the way her lips tilt up, he can see the satisfaction in her eyes. She knows she had him trapped before she even spoke.
He decides, quite easily, that if he is willing to do this for Grian, then he is also willing to do this for Pearl.
Or, Scar finds himself wrapped up in centuries-old customs that are much larger than himself. No one is surprised when he stumbles into love.

Summary
Burnt out and exhausted with city life, Etho packs up and moves to the old abandoned farm his parents owned before he was born. It's sat empty for thirty years and it's not in a good state, but he's determined to make the most of it.
The town is full of good people, and he quickly finds friendship in abundance. Amongst them all though, one stands out. Bdubs is kind and funny and exceptionally talented at a number of things. He's handsome too, and Etho can't help but crush on him, just a little bit.
They get along fantastically right from day one, but Etho keeps his feelings to himself. It's just a crush, it'll go away. And besides, it's not like Bdubs would ever like him back... Right?

Scott-the-bat studied him with all the intensity a small, fluffy mammal could have. “No shock? Horror? Anger? Accusations?”
Avid looked away. “I mean—if they’re not hurting anyone, then does it matter?”
Scott didn’t respond for a long moment. Then, finally, he said, “You’re an interesting one.”

A low humming sound could be heard across Oakhurst, not that many were there to hear it, a buzz of magic fluttered through the air after centuries of abandonment, and a slight chill nothing extreme but just cold enough for goose bumps to form on the arms, not that many of the residents here needed to keep warm. The plan was for him to stay for four months, a third of the year, during which it was to learn about the people, the language, the biomes, everything he could.
Which normally would have been fine, great even! Tango loved learning.
But the fact that his mother would be there with him definitely put a damper on things.
Still, this was an adventure for him! There were things to look forward to! Even if he didn’t want to be there in the first place…

The friends he left back home miss him, Mumbo's college friends (cough, frat bros, cough) keep pestering him, and his new friendship with a certain scarred individual is developing in a way he never expected.
Will he be able to shake off the meddling redstoners? What will happen when there are two potential romances blossoming on either side of him? And will these baristas ever stop texting each other and just make me my goddamn soy-milk capuccino?

The man hovering over him leaned back, releasing Grian completely. Cold night air rushed in to fill the void.
“I guess it’s out in the open now,” the stranger hummed. “Shame. I wanted to avoid this.”
With the additional glow occupying the space between them, Grian was finally able to catch features that were lost in the prior darkness. His curiosity outweighed all else, and he drank them in greedily. As soon as he saw who sat across from him, alarms blared in his mind.
This man wasn’t a civilian, wasn’t even a hero.
“Hello, Doctor,” the villain mused. “You were quite the help today.”
