Connor storms out of his apartment, intent on staying away from Nines and Sixty. He soon realizes that he doesn't want to live like this, without them, and goes to Zlatko to tell him he's out of the underground fight ring for good.

“Congratulations, Connor,” Zlatko said. “You’ve won a behind the scenes look at the whole operation! More than that, we’re thrilled to offer you a position. Lifetime benefits - well, I guess no benefits. Just lifetime.”
“Lifetime what, enslavement?” Connor spat.
Zlatko merely shrugged. “Call it what you want.”
“People will go looking for me. People will notice-”
“No, no I don’t think they will. My business attracts a certain type of…employee. Someone desperate for money. Someone who can get away with being bloodied up half the time and not attract attention. Someone on their own. So no, if I had to bet, I’d say that no one will be looking for you. Or, at least, they won't be looking for long.”

Haly ducks out of the trailer. The sting of tears returns as Dick looks around the trailer—his home—for the last time.
The door opens again, and Haly kneels down, presenting Dick with a stuffed elephant. “Her name’s Zitka,” Haly says. “She’s yours. You take good care of her now, okay? Just like a regular bullman.”

“Don’t tell him,” Bruce orders.
Alfred blinks. “Why not? You’ve found one of your soulmates. This is cause for celebration-”
“The Wayne family is a family of choice. He shouldn’t feel like he has to stay just because we’re…" Bruce stumbles. "And besides. He’s going to expect me to be some…some overly-doting-parent type and I can’t do that. There’s so much…so much about being someone’s soulmate. You’re supposed to be this…this…perfect person. You’re supposed to complete someone else. How the hell am I supposed to do that?”

When Connor goes missing on an undercover operation, Hank takes it upon himself to go find him.
But he can't do it alone. He recruits Nines, the new guy at the DPD. Sure, he's a little...odd, but he knows more about Connor's operation than anyone else. If he wants to find Connor, he'll have to learn how to work with Connor's replacement.
It's easier said than done, when Nines isn't even a deviant.

Basically, I noticed how Nines only bonds with Hank when Connor and/or Sixty are in the picture. I wanted to see Hank adopt Nines for who he is, not because Connor pushed it. So expect a lot of Nines and Hank fluff. :D
And of course, we'll throw in a good old fashioned kidnapping plot with some horror elements because I couldn't stop myself

Bruce doesn’t say anything for a second, but then he answers, “No. But kind of. Mom says Alfred’s family.” Bruce looks up at Jim. “You can't hear them, can you?”
And that’s when Jim realizes: the kid’s insane.

Summary
Hank dies, killed by the dealers of a new drug: Blue Ice. Connor goes on a warpath, dedicating every waking moment to shutting them down and sending every last one of them to jail.
Only...Hank's not dead. He faked his death (with help from Fowler and Kamski) and is trying to go after the investors' side of the operation while Connor shuts down production. While Connor crumbles under the weight of his suppressed grief, Hank is none the wiser.
Until it's almost too late.

Markus’s arm tensed. “Just leave him alone and he won’t bother us…what the hell?”
Simon looked up and followed Markus’s gaze to the front doors of the school, where Connor Stern himself was standing. He looked terrible; his normally wrinkle-free uniform was rumpled, his hall monitor sash that he usually wore so proudly was missing, and it was obvious that he had tried to fix his hair, but it still hung more in his face than it had that morning.
And, of course, there was the black eye and split lip.

When Connor starts coming home late, bloodied and bruised with a thousand dollars in his pocket, Nines has to confront him. Little does he know that Connor has become involved in something dark, and it won't let him go so easily.

Then, Connor came home with a bloody lip and a black eye, a cut over his eyebrow bleeding down his face. His cheekbones were mottled with bruises, thumbprints of purple and blue over his face and around his collar. From the way he held himself, Nines would be willing to bet that there were more bruises under Connor’s clothes, hidden from view.
But there was a look of pride in his eyes when he handed over a stack of hundred dollar bills. “Is that enough for rent this month?”
“What the fuck,” Sixty said, grabbing Connor by the shoulders and forcing him to turn towards the light. “What…” He glared darkly at the blood on his twin’s face. “Who did this.”
“Nobody,” Connor said, pushing past him.

“He’s a liar!” Connor yelled. He fussed with his breastplate before ripping it off, throwing it against the wall. “He’s a liar!”
“Connor, calm the fuck down,” Hank ordered. He grabbed Connor by the shoulders and looked him in the eye. “Get a hold of yourself. You can't do this. If you let your emotions get out of control, you’re gonna out yourself on accident with your magic, okay?”
Connor was breathing hard, the rage coursing through his veins. His skin was flushed blue, and his hands trembled with suppressed frustration. In a moment, Connor's anger wilted. He let out a distressed sound and put a hand up to his eyes, hiding them as tears started to line his eyelids.
“It’s okay,” Hank said, wrapping his arms around the tiefling.
“I don’t want to go back,” Connor hiccuped.

It's up to Hank to piece together what happened and try to get Connor to deviate again, but Connor has made up his mind. Only one of them will be leaving that rooftop.
