It’s a Tuesday when the invitation arrives, postmarked Missouri from Mrs. Sherman Potter. It’s addressed to “Captain Dr. Hunnicutt” on the envelope, the copperplate warm and majestic all at once, but it opens with “Dear BJ” in Potter’s cramped hand.
The invitation is to come and celebrate Potter’s official retirement from the US Army, and to meet the Potter family properly. “War takes a lot from all of us,” it says, “but don’t let it take real, honest human connection from you, too. Oh, and bring that wife and kid of yours, if they can stand the trip. The grandkids are always looking for more rabble rousers to drag into their shenanigans.“

Renfri carefully took them in her hands that were only shaking a little bit now, smearing red onto green stems and yellow petals.Julian clambered into the bed beside her and crawled halfway onto her lap. “I got you flowers, ‘cause you’re so pretty like them!”
“These aren’t flowers, they’re weeds.” Renfri told him, rolling her eyes but allowing the contact with ease. Somedays it seemed like Julian was the only person in the entire castle who wasn’t afraid of her.
“They look like flowers.” He said, crinkling his nose.
“They’re dandelions,” Renfri informed her brother with a tiny smile, “They grow everywhere, even places they perhaps shouldn’t. That’s why they’re a weed.”
“Perhaps they’re a little like you,” She teased, “Growing in even the scariest of places with no fear.” Like a monster’s heart, she doesn’t say.
“Like a superpower!” Julian gasped.
Renfri separated one dandelion from the little clutch and reached out to tuck it behind a little ear. “For the stubborn hero, Jaskier.”

Listen. I barely ship this pairing. I don't have any great love for Geralt and have made my peace with knowing that a show gave be a perfect character, lab grown to appeal to me, then killed her off in the first episode.
And this fic not only brings her back but expands on her character in amazing ways while giving Jaskier an actual storyline. I love their dynamic in this so much I don't remember half the time that they're not siblings in canon. Read this fic and forget that canon exists, they did it wrong.

Ed can keep a secret, can step inside an auxiliary wardrobe and run his fingers over the rails of fine clothing, not even able to imagine what a person could need all this for, all these fine and delicate things. All wonders, he adds, laughing at himself, remembering Hikaru, ten years old, eyes huge and the future like Humpty Dumpty in their clasped hands –- as if, the moment they let go, it would break like an egg.
“In other words, you’re scared,” Kyoya says, and Kaoru wants to throw something at him. Another difference and he doesn’t want it –- wants him and Hikaru to be the same, neither of them hesitating before they make a leap, say a word, take a step.
