A thousand years ago, before the barrier went up, monsters found themselves under constant threat of humans. They have suffered from years of prejudice and hatred. And now war. Grillby is now the last of his family line, the only one left to save his niece. Developing monsters need both love and magic... and at the moment, all he can feel is despair.
You, are a lone human, living at the base of Mt Ebott, as far from the cities as you can get. You are used to the monsters on the mountain. You are also used to being alone and keeping secrets. Now you can no longer do either of those things.

One cold winter day, you accidently run face first into the cement ribs of a dangerous skeleton monster. And feeling both annoyed and brave, you accidently threaten to dust him. Feeling marked, you then you run into him again. And again. And, honestly, you're not quite sure why he hasn't just killed you yet. Is he toying with you?
This will also serve as a request fic! At the bottom of some chapters I will take a poll for some decision to be made about the story's progression. Sometimes it will be hidden, though, for something that has NOT happened in the canon core timeline :) Enjoy!

I wanted some more romance and a more realistic, super slow build up than a lot of the SansxReader fics I read on this site, so I decided to write something of my own :) It starts with some background SansxToriel, then it moves to a platonic friendship with the skeletons and their friends. I also wanted a much more assertive reader - There be no damsels here, whether overprotective Sans likes it or not.
A lot of the content in this is based on real events in my life, just rearranged to fit the story I want to tell. Many names have been changed to protect the innocent.

Several months into the barrier being broke and monsters roaming the surface, you finally meet one. It just so happens that you lose your job by defending this one. And given that you threatened to call the cops on your sleazy drug-using ex-boss, you, uh, probably lost your house too.
But this short, punny skeleton isn't one to leave a good soul hanging.
This seems to work out well since you felt like your life needed something new. This 'new' just so happens to include mingling with monsters.
