Angels hadn't descended upon the lands of Amphoreus for years, though vestiges of their divine guidance persisted.
And all Mydei wanted was to live out his quiet life in his quaint cottage in the woods with his animals. Far away from the angels and their business.

“He fell in love with a warrior in Okhema,” Mydei tells him, sliding a hand under his pillow. “They were equals in just about everything, and that’s… significant to a Kremnoan. He died sacrificing himself to buy that warrior time to save the city.”
“That sounds like something a hero would do to me.”
“Maybe,” Mydei grumbles. “A real hero wouldn’t leave the one he loves to fight alone.”

Phainon shivers. "Not work," he says, watching the witcher blink, breathe, study him. From his mannerisms alone, he reminds Phainon of a half-tamed animal. Alert, keenly aware of everything. They say witchers can smell fear. What, then, does he smell on Phainon? "But I have another request."
"Speak, then."
He inhales, swipes his tongue over his lips to taste the rainwater on them. "When you set off," Phainon says, "take me with you."

Mydei just wants to fight monsters, collect his paycheck, and move on to the next miserable village and the next miserable client with something to slay. He is not going to last this cycle. A thousand cycles ago he had to drape himself in an old cloak taken from the ruins of Aidonia to hide the worst of the damage he has done to himself. A hundred cycles ago he shattered Dawnmaker, and has not had the capability to forge it anew. Fifty cycles ago he picked up a set of armor from the ruins of Castrum Kremnos to hide the state of his face. Forty nine cycles ago he gave up convincing Aglaea and Cerydra and Tribios on who he was under the armor and cloak and fell back to the only plan he had left, the one he knew would always work.
Last cycle, the Lance of Fury almost tore his body into pieces before he could take the final coreflame.
And so now he is here, following the young version of himself. They are close to the end, just before the mission to Styxia and a few months before the final advance on Aquila that heralds the death of light, of hope, of everything. But he is not going to last this cycle.
Not unless he tells this Phainon, this Khaslana, everything.

After nearly 20 years of isolation, Amphoreus is finally real and finally ready to open its gates to the public.
King Mydeimos of Castrum Kremnos has decided to hold the Kremnoan Festival in Okhema in order to hopefully bring more tourists to the planet and spread Kremnoan culture. His daughter Gorgo, however, is less hopeful.
While trying to “have fun” like her parents told her to, she and her siblings discover a plot that might spell doom for Amphoreus’ Grand Opening. Together they must uncover the mystery to save the day. But what other mysteries might they uncover?
