Walking the corridors of Lightcliffe High again after 11 years felt weird but Ann was just happy enough that she had the opportunity to do what she thought she should be doing with her life (even if her family argued that she didn’t have to do anything with her life due to her inheritance). It felt like she had taken back a bit of her freedom even if she was working for her cousin’s wife. But she feels like her life is being turned upside down again when she hears that Anne Lister is also returning to the school. Maybe that schoolgirl crush hadn’t died down. And maybe Ann would be able to have her chance with her.

After all the arguments that they’d had recently, Anne knew that Ann would be able to stand on her own two feet when it came to arguing things out with her brother-in-law. Hence why her answer was a simple ‘of course', bearing in mind it was her house he was standing in.
“No! No!” Ann said immediately, holding her hand up as a gesture to tell Anne to stay where she was. “Anything you have to say to me, you can say in front of my… Miss Lister.”
Anne registered that Captain Sutherland had picked up on Ann’s almost slip up but it gave her all the hope that she needed that things could be solved between them.Anne, honestly, didn’t know how much Elizabeth knew. Either from Ann or the tribe. So she didn’t know what to expect when she found her sitting in the drawing room at Shibden, waiting to speak to her about everything that had happened.
