Steve bares his teeth against the surge of want that starbursts behind his ribcage and darts his hand out to tangle in the knot of necklaces around Munson’s neck. He tugs, pulling Munson closer, forcing him to either curve over Steve’s body or risk breaking the chains.
“Not as long as it’s been since someone tugged on yours,” Steve murmurs against the shell of Munson’s ear.

“When I was little–” Eddie still remembers how Steve toyed with each of his fingers “Granny said I should only put this on the hand of someone I really really love, because that's the only thing that would make it truly worth something.” he slid the golden band on Eddie's ringless pinky finger, smiling when he noticed it would only go halfway. “There, did it.” his eyes climbed up to Eddie's, dreamy, relaxed. “Can I kiss you again?”
The memory pierces Eddie's mind like a blade.

“Do you want me to suck you off so you can close your eyes and pretend that I am her?” Steve asks, breathy and raspy voice against his ear, a faint trace of a dirty little laugh there, the alcohol in his system making him loose. “Or do you close your eyes when she sucks you off so you can pretend she's me?”

He always means what he says.Eddie, on the other hand, became good at making it seem like he means his every word, especially when he doesn't.
It's a brutal combination.

Steve feels like he stares, mouth dropped open softly, cheeks burning, for too long before he can make himself reply. And even then, it feels like garbled nonsense.
"You mean…"
"You know exactly what I mean." There's something about the way that Eddie's looking at him now that makes him feel like prey.

He lifts the shaker, snapping his wrist so the ice rattles sharp and loud over his shoulder. The cold metal bites into his palm. "So, what's your name, newbie?"
"Steve." Eddie strains the cocktail into a waiting glass, the liquid settling smooth and pale. He slides it across the bar. Steve watches it like it might detonate, fingers hovering before he finally wraps them around the glass. "Yours?"
"Eddie." He taps the bar once, twice, then leans forward against it, the edge pressing into his hips.
"And just so you know, Steve, if you're gonna order drinks with names like that, you gotta own it. Look 'em dead in the eye. Show no fear. We prey on weakness round here." He smiles, slow and crooked, enjoying the way Steve's shoulders tense and relax all at once.OR: I got sad that Eddie never got to see Steve in his S5 epilogue outfit and his stupid corduroy jacket so I made them fuck about it

It was 2023 in boring Hawkins, Indiana, and Steve Harrington didn't know what he was doing with his life. Home from college with a barely passing GPA, recently dumped, and drunkenly careening down a dark country road to the tune of his own misery, Steve was aware that he might be depressed. Therapy would've been the sane solution. But before he could turn around and make that choice, a glowing red hole cracked open in the middle of the road, and he was sent flying through time and space.
It was also 1985 in boring Hawkins, Indiana, and Eddie Munson had a five step plan on how to fix his life. First, graduate high school. Second, provide a kickass D&D campaign for the nosy little freshman that joined Hellfire. And finally, write more music and go on tour with his band. Okay, three step plan. Absolutely nothing about his plan-in-progress included stumbling across the hottest man he'd ever seen stranded on the side of the road. Or the glowing red portal to hell parked next to him.

“What are you wearing, big boy?” Eddie asks before dissolving into peals of elated laughter, mixing perfectly with Robin’s own hiccuping giggles.
Steve straightens up. He catches sight of his own face reflected back at him from the dark windows and for the first time that night, he’s glad no one else is here. It’d be hard to explain the force of his grin and the way his cheeks have turned splotchy and pink even in the cold air.
Steve dutifully waits for a break in the laughter to answer Eddie’s question. “White sweater, green vest, blue jeans, white sneakers,” he lists out, the corners of his mouth twitching as he fights against himself to maintain that same droll tone.
“That’s so cute, baby."
OR: It starts as a joke, but Eddie just keeps calling.

OR
Eddie and Steve haven't had any time alone for over a week due to busy schedules and basically parenting six kids. While trying to watch Lord of the Rings with Dustin, Steve grows impatient. After they drop Dustin off at home, they make up for the lost time.
NOTE: Nothing too graphic happens while Dustin is with them; Steve is not jealous of Dustin in any romantic/sexual way. Also, Eddie is 22 and Steve is 21 bc I say so. And this is set kind of modern, I didn't have a specific year in mind but obvi after all the LoTR movies came out.

“One, do not fucking kiss me,” Steve says, clicking on a lamp. The guy nods, taking off his jacket, throwing it on the floor as he stares at his mouth while he talks. “Two, this is a one time thing.”
The guy laughs, grabs onto Steve’s wrists, “that’s not going to be a problem.” “Because once you have me, you’ll want me again,” Steve oozes confidence, all babygirl and bratty. It’s so easy for him to be like this.
He scoffs, “oh please. Who do you think you are? Really?”
He tightens his grip on his wrists and pushes him against the wall. Fuck, okay, it’s going to happen right here.
Or
Steve sleeps around with low expectations and zero intentions for it ever meaning more. Until he meets a guy who makes him want to break all his own rules.

“You’re saying that you want me,” Eddie continues, eyes darting between Steve’s, “to talk about fucking a dude. To see if you get hard.”

Steve sighs, “it really, really wasn’t hard to work out. You are not a subtle guy Eddie-”
“And what the hell does that mean?” Eddie snaps back, clearly affronted.
Steve stands straight, and without missing a beat lifts his shirt up to his armpits. Eddie’s eyes immediately, hungrily, rake over the newly exposed skin. Steve waves a hand in front of his own torso like a magician revealing the trick, and Eddie turns bright pink and starts sputtering, “that’s not- I mean- you can’t-” but he’s glaring at the floor, chagrined and caught out, and he knows it.

It stops the playful atmosphere instantly.
Not everyone tells him when they have a Memento. Lucas had kept to himself, and Will had refused to tell Steve about his dream. Some of them just tell him, softly, I remembered number one-seventy-three, or I had a Memento, last night. Sometimes it’s easier to just mention that it happened, acknowledge it and move on.
And Robin, for the most part, had done this. She hadn’t mentioned the details, because she’s sure that Steve is tired of hearing them, doesn’t want to hear his death from another person’s eyes, another person who is left with his body for a day before the loop dissolves into nothingness.
AKA: In the aftermath of it all, when Steve is learning what happiness means for him, people start to remember his deaths.

There are things that always happen, no matter how hard he tries: El doesn’t arrive in time. Eddie dies. Max is put in a coma.
Steve fails. They lose.
