Summary
Heyes and the Kid are on the run once more, but this time it's not from a posse-- it's a gang leader who has a ten-year-old score to settle with the Kid. They find a town in an out-of-the-way valley and hope he won't figure out where they went. Summary
Hannibal Heyes and Kid Curry become outlaws and acquire reputations as train and bank robbers. Accepting conditional offers of amnesty from John Wesley Hoyt, governor of Wyoming Territory from 1878 to 1882, they agree to go straight and try to stay out of trouble. Along the way, they meet many friends, including the ladies whom they will eventually marry. They are also challenged to find a place for God in their lives. After receiving the promised amnesties, Heyes and Curry marry and raise children, settling down to honest work.

Summary
This series focuses on Friedrich Arnheiter during and after his service in the Afrika Korps in Hauptmann Hans Dietrich’s company in 3rd Panzer Reconnaissance Battalion.
Many years ago, when I began writing Rat Patrol fiction, I created an original character, Friedrich Arnheiter, to be the new guy in Dietrich's company. He was originally intended only to be a walk-on part in that first story ("The Pass of Thermopylae Raid"), never to be seen again. However, he became a recurring character in my RP fiction as an Everyman and the Afrika Korps' answer to Radar O'Reilly.
Some readers have been interested in reading more about ‘Fritz’. In the days of print fanzines there was no way that I could explore him in any depth. But with the rise of fan fiction online, I am finally able to tell his story from his point of view in a way that was never possible before.
The series title "Into the Wide World" comes from an old German folk song, which begins "Wem Gott will rechte Gunst erweisen, den schickt er in die weite Welt...". This translates as "Whom God truly wishes to do good, He sends him into the wide world." From North Africa to Scotland to London, Arnheiter's world became much wider than he ever expected.

Summary
These are the several Rat Patrol stories that I wrote which take place in the desert during the North African campaign. Most of them were originally published in the multi-fandom genzine Of Dreams and Schemes, edited by Catherine Schlein; some of these have been revised or rewritten, while others are essentially the same as when originally published in print in the 1990s. "The Hole in the Wall Raid" was published in my own RP zine, Under the Sun.
