Ralsei blinks. Attempts to contextualize his surroundings: he is on the floor of Kris’s room. Various empty chip bags surround him. Kris is sprawled out at his side on their back. Their phone is balanced against a tissue box and currently playing a movie. Ralsei reaches out to pause it—Thelma and Louise. Right. He…remembers that. Halfway, at least.
Kris says, “oh, did I wake you up? Sorry.”
“No,” Ralsei says, “or, yes, or—I don’t know.” He pauses, swallows. “What were you saying?”
“Me. You. Road trip.” Kris nudges him. “I don’t care where. Just—away. You know? We’re adults. Nobody can stop us!”
Adults. Ralsei sure doesn’t feel it. Not here, in Hometown, where sometimes he has to catch himself, remind himself that yes, he’s safe here. That she won’t find him here. That he’s blocked her number and he has an entirely new one besides. That in four days, it’ll have been four years since he…
“Okay,” Ralsei says, and he takes Kris’s hand. “Road trip. Let’s do it.”

When she closes her eyes she can still see Ralsei crying. Tripping over his words, his breaths stuttery and scared, how small he was, there, dwarfed by the stained glass. All his weirdness of the day narrowed down into one singular point, shadowed by darkness and lit only with each booming crack of something like thunder, illuminating the teartracks down his muzzle. It made something in her chest shake, too. Some piece of her crack, under the weight of his sorrow. She never wanted him to cry.
She could never give him up.
(Or: Susie finds herself heading to Castle Town, in the aftermath of everything that has happened.)

When Orym gets on the bus Fearne is already there, humming loudly and carving her initials and a flower into the leather of the seat in front of her with a rusty looking nail.
“Hi Fearne,” he says, sliding into the space next to her. “Where’s that nail from?”
“Oh, hello Orym,” she replies, her voice as soft and sweet as ever. “I found it rolling around under the seat, isn’t that amazing?”
“Sure. You’ve had your tetanus shot, right?”
When district lines are reshuffled Fearne, Dorian and Orym are dropped into Jrusar Middle School and into the lives of some very weird and wonderful individuals. Navigating the growing pains of the awkward battlefield stretch between childhood and teendom known as the tween stage will never be easy, but with friends at your side it can never be too bad either.

Given that it's the fucking modern era, you would think Jrusar would have, you know, updated their accessibility laws. And installed ramps in the Core Spire. And implemented socialized healthcare. And fixed the cable car system, because they've been kicked off two cars mid-transfer in the past month because they couldn't take FCG's wheelchair.

Ashton Greymoore stared up at the building that nearly killed them six months ago and sighed internally, leaning heavily on their cane. There were about eighty other things they'd rather be doing right now than standing outside a sketchy research facility owned and operated by the most terrifying rich woman alive, but their only other plausible options right now were to do this job and earn at least some money to keep themself from sliding further into complete and utter financial ruin at the hands of medical debt or to go back to laying in their shitty bed at Milo's place and doing nothing waiting for Anni to return from her out of town gig.
Also, the bus had already left.
So really, Ashton had exactly one option.

Fearne tilts her head to the side. “What’s really making you so upset?”
Imogen’s eyes go wide.
“There are so many shops we can go to, and you can always order a ring online too.”
Imogen sees FCG nod their head before feeling both sets of eyes on her.
“I know,” Imogen rushes out, her cheeks reddening as she pulls her hand away from Fearne and crosses her arms. “But I want this ring to be special.” She drops her gaze, unable to look at either of her friends. Realistically, Imogen knows she can’t expect to find a perfect ring in one day. She just wishes she knew why nothing felt right.
“You’re already asking Laudna to marry you,” FCG says. “What could be more special than that?”
Or, Imogen struggles, their friends help, and Laudna gets something she's always wanted but never thought she could have.

Summary
Fearne dumps her backpack on the ground, apparently not caring where or how it lands, and twirls the toddler around the little hall. “Look, Little Mister!” she says, pausing to point at a framed photograph in the entryway. “That’s your mommy when she first met your uncles!”
“Mommy?” Dorian chokes out, and although Orym suspected it, it’s still a surprise to hear.
Fearne turns to Dorian with a blinding grin and holds out the toddler, her hands under his armpits. “Yup!” she says. “This is my baby. Isn’t he great?”
After years away, Fearne shows up on Orym and Dorian's doorstep with a baby in tow. Taking care of a kid isn't a one person job, though, and it doesn't take long for all of Bell's Hells to become a part of Little Mister's life.
