Summary
After years stuck playing the villain, Vil Shoenheit is finally cast in a lead role for the Valentine’s Day production of Swan Lake in the Cœur de Grâce theatre in the Fairest City. To ensure that he puts on the best performance possible, Vil procures the tutelage of Leona Kingscholar, a veteran dancer who disappeared from the ballet world right after starring in the highly acclaimed, but mysterious Swan Lake production at the Teatro Giocoso five years ago. As the two continue their partnership, Vil really starts to feel the pressure of being the best white swan he can possibly be, and he starts to uncover the mysteries behind Teatro Giocoso’s troubled production.

“I… need you to help me finish this game.”
Akira’s mouth pulls to the side.
It’s the early start of a game, 6 turns in, the same number of white and black stones each. So early that there’s basically nothing Akira can glean from it; what strategies might be involved, who the players could have been, how serious it might be. Going over games is nothing new, but this isn’t a game. It’s… a false start.
“…Why?” Akira asks, confused. “This is nothing.”
Hikaru eyes narrow with an uncomfortable ferocity.
“It’s not nothing,” he says firmly, before the ferocity abates. “It’s… it’s too much to explain fully right now. But, I want to finish this game. And the only person who can help me do it, is you.”

Vil stared at Leona. As he did so, his eyes welled up with tears. “How long have I longed to hear those words?”
He screwed his eyes shut, pulling his hands away to wipe at his cheeks as tears spilled down his face. “Twenty years. I've been waiting for so long, and…”
Leona wrapped his arms around Vil. “You don't have to wait any more, I'm here!”
He cupped Vil’s wet cheeks in his hands. “I'm here, and I love you, and I always will.” His lips were only inches away from Vil’s. “My husband. The thought of you was the only thing keeping me sane.”
Vil placed his hands atop Leona’s. “My husband is the furthest thing from sane.”
Leona laughed. “I've missed your cheek.” He moved closer to Vil. “Let me kiss you, Vil.”
There is nothing more that Vil would have wanted than to kiss his husband once more, to make up for twenty years of their love lost to the tides and to the war.
But the man in front of him was not his husband, so he could not kiss him.
