Summary
What they don’t tell you about dying is that it hurts like hell.
Grian laid on the ground, soft wet grass tickling his skin. He couldn’t force his eyes open, so they stayed closed, forehead knitted in pain. Every part of his body screamed. His arms laid by his sides, heavy enough to fall off, knuckles throbbing with bruises. His chest ached every time he tried to take a ragged breath. A migraine threatened to split his head in half, making all of his thoughts soupy and fuzzy and hard to focus on.
Is this how the others felt, each person who had died by Grian’s own hands? His heart hurt at the thought of his comrades and enemies alone, wallowing in pain. Maybe it was just him. Maybe it was his punishment for destroying everything he had ever loved. Cursed to lay conscious for eternity, waiting for a release that would never come.
He deserved that. After everything he had done, the blood he had spilled, maybe this was merciful. The best someone like him deserved.
OR;
After winning Third Life, Grian wakes up in an uninhibited world, still reeling from the trauma he just went through. The other winners from their own series start appearing to join him, and they're left wondering why.

The man hovering over him leaned back, releasing Grian completely. Cold night air rushed in to fill the void.
“I guess it’s out in the open now,” the stranger hummed. “Shame. I wanted to avoid this.”
With the additional glow occupying the space between them, Grian was finally able to catch features that were lost in the prior darkness. His curiosity outweighed all else, and he drank them in greedily. As soon as he saw who sat across from him, alarms blared in his mind.
This man wasn’t a civilian, wasn’t even a hero.
“Hello, Doctor,” the villain mused. “You were quite the help today.”
