What no one remembers…will eventually be something that never existed, right?
If that is so, then a quarter of Yuma’s entire life, from eight years old to thirteen, never existed.
He feels incomplete. A sham of the Yuma he was ‘supposed’ to be, and the way his soul cries out with familiarity, yet never gives him any answers, does not help. It’s like he’s going to shatter at any moment, to the point he cannot even stare at his own reflection for fear of what he’ll find there.
Perhaps, that is why he agreed to become Mihael’s adventuring partner; so he could follow in his father’s footsteps. He didn’t know what those were, or what he was hoping to find, but he did it anyway. Occasionally forcing Mihael into cold expeditions where they found nothing, instead of the ancient civilizations his boyfriend so craved.
But just because Yuma doesn’t remember, doesn’t mean no one does. And when he follows his father’s footsteps a little too closely— down a cliff that formed right beneath his feet — it then becomes a question of what is most important to Yuma. Escaping the strangle locale of nothing but blue that he and Mihael find themselves in, or… finally becoming whole again?

There were many facets of life that mostly existed to plague a human’s existence, such a sudden accidents, disasters, or fatal illnesses like cancer.
But when it came to things like heartbreak, and the afflictions that could come of it, Kaito couldn’t help but look at it from a scientific point of view, and ponder over the aid they could provide mankind. There was a reason most not only did not have a cure, but no one rushed to find one either; not only were they rarely ever fatal, but often, a wakeup call for when one should move on from a fruitless love.
Of course they brought pain, but few things in life didn’t. Humans were overdramatic, is all. And Kaito was anything but.
Seeing countless people close to him fall prey to them, and eventually even himself, did little to halt his curious musings on it. Some would joke that, perhaps, that made Kaito the most romantic person they would ever know.

It's to protect the ex he still cares for, he tells himself. There is no one left to look out for her and her child. If he must die, why not wait until his death can help someone else escape?
And it's through this farce that he finally finds himself living a facsimile of the life he always wanted: to have a family, and especially a child of his own. Trunks taking after Bulma only helps him pretend, and it's not like Bulma is stopping him. She's all too eager to allow Trunks to be a child, after all.
But the bell always comes to toll, and in the end, Yamcha wonders if any of it mattered at all.
