Stoick made a mistake when he exiled Hiccup after the failed final exam for the Dragon Slaying School. He didn't realize how bad that mistake was until Hiccup went missing.

They were on their way back to Berk now, and Hiccup was trying not to fall asleep. He hadn't been sure what type of dragon that had been which was a major shock to him considering he knew most of them, and he was pretty sure the fact that he was so tired was an effect of the dragon. So this was a new dragon that they had no record of, and it might have caused him to be drowsy. That was interesting. Maybe if he went back then they could study it more.
He and Toothless made it back to Berk regardless of how tired he was. So everything was fine. It was all great and amazing. Hopefully, he could write down these effects before he grew too tired and fell asleep. This was important knowledge.
Then Hiccup dismounted Toothless and promptly collapsed, passing out before he even hit the ground.

Learning that they are going to be watching the end of the generations long war, most settle in eagerly while others are concerned how they will react.
I do not own HTTYD, it is Dreamworks and Cressida Cowell's. I am just borrowing their story. There is full script in this! I implemented it this way in order to keep everything in order and assure everyone knows where in the movie we are.
