The first time he hears it is actually in that goddamned Honda Odyssey.
He's got Logan on his back, his blood is dripping into Logan's mouth, and the maniac grins, this ferocious, alight sort of smile, and right before Wade gets shot straight through the roof of the van, he swears that he can hear a low, steady rumble somewhere under all the wet sounds of blood-soaked breaths and angered growls.
Since people don't purr, he's actually pretty sure it's a rattling wheeze; a horrible wet asthmatic sound because Wade has a knife in his lung, but that doesn't mean he's not going to be an asshole about it.
"Aw, listen to that, is kitty purring?" Wade jeers, twisting his knife in Logan's chest. "Kitty's happy to get put in his place?"
(In which people from Logan's universe have some interesting traits.)

That does very little for Danny except let his confusion grow to humongous proportions. “That’s great?” he asks more than says. Not that it would be completely unprecedented for Steve to talk to him about dating, but the way he’s going about it suggests that there’s a little more to it.
“Yeah,” Steve says. “Um. He was okay, I guess.”
In which Steve interrupts Danny’s lovely, quiet evening at home to share something he discovered during a date.

Otabek shifts his eyes lazily to Yuri. “Where did I go, exactly?”

Rin rakes a hand through his hair. “Nanase. We’re friends, so I’m gonna be the one to tell you that when you try to be charming, it really just comes off as...” He gropes for the word with a shudder. “Just evil."
“Yes, Rin, we’re friends. That’s why I can tell you that your ‘charm’ is more toxic than a radioactive cockroach that crawled up a dead horse’s ass. Now, if you please?” He waves at the door.
"C'mon, Makoto's a rational Scorpio, you’re a cold-hearted bitch. It’s perfect. Just tell me Sousuke’s birthday and I’ll make it happen.”
Haru shakes his head. “It would be extremely unprofessional of me to give out a coworker’s information.”

Keith freezes, one arm halfway out of his coat sleeve. It’s the brown one with the plaid lining, the one that doesn’t match anything else he owns, but is too practical to get rid of. He pulls it off his other arm and holds it tight to his chest. Shakes his head.
“Not recently?”
Shiro frowns.
Keith dips forward and doesn’t shiver when curious fingers tangle in the hair at the back of his neck. Shiro’s palm feels large on the back of his skull as his fingers fist, gentle, into Keith’s hair, and then relax. He pulls them free, expression thoughtful. Keith watches through his bangs as he straightens up.
“Been like that for awhile,” he smiles, apologetic.
Shiro smiles back, tightness between his brows crumbling to an open kind of trust. “Huh. I must’ve… gotten mixed up.”

Pencil drawing in rain. Who thought of that? It’s much more sketchy than he would have liked, but fuck, who cares? It’s just a study, nothing he will get a grade on. And so far, even though he struggles with his punctuality sometimes, his grades somehow work out for him. Most of the time. He is okay. Good enough to keep his scholarship, not good enough to be the constant focus of everyone’s attention. Yuri used to despise mediocrity, wanted to be the best in everything, but then his planned career ended abruptly because he overworked himself. And no matter how thick his skull is, he learned something from that.
Sometimes being happy is enough, because nothing is safe anyway.
