When he felt his feet touch the ground once again, he summoned with his very essence every single spirit in his debt, in his control, and focussed every particle of dark energy he could call forth into a beam, a concentrated cathode ray of darkness, and channelled it into the heart of the wheel. Resentful energy of the worst order swirled around him, calling him back, back, back to those graves, back to the primal form of the burial mounds where he had been reborn. The wheel’s rapid, erratic clicking like music to his ears, his eyes shone an unnaturally bright red of a bygone time, and he had not been this non-human in quite a while.
Seconds passed. Centuries passed. Time stilled, time ran, time smiled down upon him from her throne of thorns in the sky. He was dead, dead, dead, but he had never been thrumming with more life.
It felt like coming home. It felt like losing everything he had.
Cool, golden eyes. A whisper, a long, white ribbon, embroidered with clouds. He smiled. Maybe this was farewell for good, after all that had happened. They both always, always forgot just how fragile life was, even after all these years. He hoped A-Yuan remembered him this time.
