Bubblegum Crisis was one of the first megahit anime to reach Western shores uncut - an iconic direct-to-video cyberpunk explosion of action - and it came just as the internet began to reshape the information society. In other words, nerds have been writing fanfiction for the internet for thirty-five years, and BGC was one of the first anime that inspired those nerds.
But so much has been lost in defunct archives and personal webpages only accessible through the Wayback Machine. Hence the Masterfic Theater, a selective project to bring Bubblegum Crisis's lost fanfics to new audiences here on AO3. From 1987 to 1991, Studio ARTMIC gave the world THE iconic symbol of the OVA era, Bubblegum Crisis 2032, a cyberglam superheroine adventure set in a world on the edge of bursting open.
In 1998, co-studio AIC picked up the pieces and created Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040, a Y2K-tastic Post-Evangelion nightmare posing mimicking a genuine character study.
Both were icons of early internet anime fanfiction. Now the old traditions return in the New Stories of The Knight Sabers. Set across the 2060’s, and suffused with crossovers you didn’t think could work until now, Bubblegum Crisis 206X takes you into a future overrun with corporate evil, post-fascist madness, and technology pushing humanity to extinction - or transformation. In Megatokyo and beyond, the Knight Sabers and their allies fight a hypertech war to protect peace and justice and rid the world of evil.

The adventures of the Knight Sabers, Megatokyo’s defenders of justice in a cyberpunk world that has long since forgotten what justice means, as rendered around the turn of the millennium by one Craig A. Reed Jr., now a real writer, and by me nearly twenty years later.
Basically, I compiled some old fanfiction of my all-time favorite anime series that hadn’t been given love since the age of Usenet and Geocities, and continued one of its episodes.

Summary
Ghosts. Curses. Aliens. Super-powered martial artists. The world is full of many strange and inexplicable things like these. And when all these elements come together, the result can be nothing short of pure, unbridled chaos. Such chaos would be difficult for anyone to navigate, much less a group of awkward teens who have to do so while sorting out their own personal feelings.
But surely they’ll manage it somehow, right?
Or: The casts of Ranma 1/2 and Dandadan collide at the start of their series and have to deal with all the trials and tribulations that come their way. With some minor elements from Urusei Yatsura thrown in for good measure.
