Satisfied, Phoenix took the other glass and started drinking some of his own. Edgeworth settled his glass down on the nightstand and looked at him intensely.
He lowered his glass a bit, tilting his head. “What is it?”
“This is not a dream…is it?” Edgeworth mused, before shaking his head. “No, I don’t think it is.”
Phoenix smiled softly before taking another sip of his water.
“If this were one of my usual dreams, we’d be kissing.”
Phoenix promptly inhaled his water, going into a coughing fit.

A few minutes pass in comfortable silence, Phoenix trying to just cool off, but it’s taking a while. He sighs. “Ugh, what I’d do to feel the cool air on my skin. It’s too damn hot.”
Miles’s hand pauses whatever he is writing. “Well,” he begins, voice strangely tight and careful. “You could always strip down further.”

Ford is back after Stan activated the portal, and they’re both settling as well as they can. Which is, unsurprisingly, not well at all. When Ford tells Stan that he needs to be out of his house at the end of summer, Stan…doesn’t take it very well.
Emotions run high, traumas resurface, and Ford realizes just how much Stan has gone through since they were eighteen. It’s not pretty.
(AKA a rewrite of the ending from ‘A Tale of Two Stans’ with a significantly angstier, yet somehow far more hopeful confrontation.)

And he couldn’t get used to it. Not anymore. Not when it ran so deep, not when it clawed at him from the inside every second of every day. No amount of pills, or booze, or cheap Stan-Co. bandages could fix what was broken.
