“I changed the batteries this morning,” his father says, casual, lifting the camcorder to flip the screen open. “Brought the good tape.”
He peers into the viewfinder, checks something. Nods his head, just to himself. The tape loads with a click. The red light comes on.
His father aims it at the water for a moment. Then moves it to the trees. Then down at Michael.
Dry, “Smile.”
The red light is steady. Blinking. Waiting.
It, too, wants something from him.
His father stiffens. “I said smile.”
Michael stares at him for a moment. Then into the lense. And then he smiles.

Summary
The heavy footsteps and movements, less fluid for a human, were very close and suddenly stopped in his ears. He didn't look up, lacking strength as he took his last breaths, trying not to focus on the mixture of pain and probable internal bleeding, but he knew that William, controlling Spring Bonnie's former costume, had been staring at him for too long with those glaring white lights that were his irises, his other eyes for years, his visible body inside having long since rotted away. He couldn't see much now, not from the angle of the greater darkness.
