Summary
“You should watch Heated Rivalry! It’s perfect for you guys,” Hen said brightly, rising from her chair and making her way toward the sink to dump out the rest of her coffee.
Ravi’s accompanying nod was almost grave. “HBO Max.”
------
Buck and Eddie watch Heated Rivalry together and get a little... heated, together.

Summary
“Come home. After your shift. I will make you hot chocolate.” It was a promise.
It was more than that. They had been calling the Diaz’ house home for a while now and not once had Buck said anything against it, he would usually give him that shy smile while lowering his head. Like he couldn’t believe that he was part of their family.
Maybe it was time for Eddie to remind him of it.
“It will be late, I still have like two hours left, and that is if nothing happens and hold us for longer.”
“It won’t be late.” Eddie had been late so many times in his life, but right now everything felt like it was meant to happen at this pace. “Maybe it will be early.”

Summary
Eddie Díaz never expected the army to spit him out and leave him stranded at a dusty gas station with nothing but a duffel bag and the weight of his past. And Evan Buckley never expected his aimless road trip in a beat-up Jeep (and his dog riding shotgun) to crash into someone who’d change everything.
What starts as a ride to El Paso becomes a journey across highways, small towns, beaches, and sunrises. Between motels and bonfires, stolen cowboy hats and late-night confessions, Eddie learns that home isn’t where you’re from — it’s who you find along the way.
And maybe, just maybe, Buck is exactly what he’s been searching for.

Summary
It had been 21:43 when Eddie had taken his phone out of his pocket, and a moment ago the display had changed to 21:51. Which means that he has been chickening out for eight minutes. He needs to either call Buck or put his phone down.
He does neither.
It's just that he'd thought he'd cope better with not seeing Buck for a while. Sure, the last time they'd been apart for more than a few days Eddie had joined an underground fighting ring. Not a classic reaction to being unable to talk to your best friend, but there had been a lot of other stuff going on too. He hadn't started punching people just because he'd missed Buck. But it may have been, as Frank had put it, "a significant contributing factor".
Eddie hasn't seen Buck in six days and he doesn't want to hit anyone this time, he just wants to stay in bed and cry.

“I’ll buy you meatballs,” Buck pitches, leaning forward across the kitchen table.
Eddie’s nose scrunches. “The ones they put berry juice all over? Pass.”
“Eddie,” Buck complains in a voice that is just barely not a whine. “C’mon, don’t make me go to IKEA by myself. How about a frozen yogurt?”
Rolling his eyes, Eddie slides Buck a cup of coffee before settling down across from him with his own. Their ankles bump under the table, but neither of them jolt at the contact.
“I don’t see why you can’t just order online,” Eddie reasons, voice reverberating in his mug.
“If I’m going to fucking Burbank, I’m getting the full experience.”

Eddie pauses. “What’s wrong? Was the bakery closed already?”
Buck’s left thigh seizes. He laughs to disguise the whimper in his voice. He aches. He wants. He wants.
“No, nothing, man,” Buck huffs. The extra air makes his voice sound stronger than it is. He inhales deeply. “Nothing’s wrong. I have the bread, I’m on my way back, just…”
“Traffic?”
Sort of, Buck almost says.

“So, uh, you come here often?”
“Do I come here often?” Buck repeats slowly. He does come here often. As does Eddie. They both come here all the time, at the same time, together.
Or, why ask someone out on a date when you can just take them on one without their knowledge? Sounds flawless to Eddie.

Summary
“Why won’t anyone just- just tell- me?” Buck stutters out, teeth clicking together. “Just tell me so I can- so I can move on! I can’t keep- keep- keep guessing!”
“Guessing about what, Buck?” Eddie’s voice, smooth and constant. “I’ll tell you, right now. What do you want to know?”
Buck’s breathing almost stops, then. At the crossroads of what he’s been trying to get to for so long, he can either walk away and live with the comfort of not knowing, let hope string him along, or he can cross the train tracks and hope there’s no train coming.
“Am I not enough?” He sobs, small and pathetic, and braces for the train.

Summary
The thing that infuriates Buck, more than anything, is that Eddie’s right. Eddie’s been weird and distant and he still knows Buck well enough to see right through him. It makes him want to scream.
Because for all that Eddie apparently knows what Buck’s thinking, Buck has no idea what’s going through Eddie’s head these days. One second he’s fine, the next he looks like he’s about to break. Then Buck will blink, and it’s like nothing ever happened.
And he can’t - he wants to push, okay? But he can’t, because it’s pretty damn clear what will happen if he pushes too far.

Summary
Eddie kisses him in the kitchen.
Bright morning sunshine spills in the window over the sink, picking out the golden flecks in Eddie’s eyes. He cradles Buck’s jaw with one warm palm, and Buck freezes for a moment, startled, before surging against Eddie. He’s still holding a hot mug of coffee that he barely fumbles onto the counter without dropping or spilling all over his shirt.
He rakes his fingers into Eddie’s hair and reels him in closer, Eddie’s firm thigh slotted between his.
“Eddie,” he pants as Eddie scrapes his teeth down his throat and sucks on the spot over his racing pulse.
Eddie hums as he rucks Buck’s t-shirt up and splays his hand over his back, hot like a brand on his bare skin. Buck gasps, which Eddie swallows in another heated kiss, licking into Buck’s mouth and doing his best to scatter all of Buck’s thoughts.OR Buck and Eddie are FWB, act like boyfriends, and are suuuuper dumb and oblivious about everything.
