"The humour from the Master’s eyes vanished as he glared down at his rival. “You could have been a giant.” he growled, advancing until his nose was less than an inch from the barrier separating them. “You could have made a difference but instead you grovel and crawl around the edges of our race’s destiny like the rest of this pathetic universe!”
This is a rewrite of The War Master set, Rage of the Time Lords. Specifically ep 4 where instead of capturing the Doctor for a few hours, the Master holds him for a few months, subjecting him to procedure after procedure as he uses the Doctor to develop his ultimate weapon. And indulging his own anger and hatred towards the Doctor in a number of other sadistic ways.
You absolutely DO NOT have to know the plot of the audiodrama literally AT ALL to read this. It is basically just a whump fic mixed with a Doctor/Master character study. It is literally all Doctor whump and complicated, twisted explorations of the Doctor and Master's relationship to each other. That's it.

Yet for all the jumbled feelings of shame and disgust he directs at his people like a loaded gun, he’s a Time Lord through and through. He lifts a trembling hand to palm at the fast-healing tear in his throat, wondering how an injury carved so deep in his body barely equals a fraction of the pain this place inflicts upon him.
(Perhaps it’s because it was Charley to part the flesh of his neck into a gash too clean and neat to be natural. The dull, throbbing ache of the scar between his hearts feels like hate, but the fresh hurt of this injury feels like love. Neither will leave him as this version of him lives, not until he leaves himself, whether by stumbling into the storm and walking out a new man or by lying down and allowing himself to be swept away by the wind and the rain and the awful misery of it all.)

Squeezing herself into the corner of what she assumed was a linen closet, its faint mothball scent clinging to the stale air, Rose fumbled blindly for her mobile. Cramped and dark, it wasn’t much of a hiding spot, but it was better than being out there with prowlers and party-goers. Her hands shook as she pressed the home key, the screen dimly illuminating the closet. She needed to find the Doctor—needed him now.
The door slammed open before she could type a single word. Her breath caught, her stomach lurching as light poured in. But there he was—scandalously tight blue suit, Venetian mask, and an energy that filled the small space almost as much as he did. Relief flickered through her, but her grip on her mobile stayed tight.
“Where the hell have you—” she started, but her words faltered as she caught the faint smell of smoke clinging to him. What had he set on fire this time?
And then he leaned in, his lips crashing against hers in a kiss that stole the breath right out of her lungs.

Summary
After a particularly harrowing adventure, Rose is left shaken by the memories it brings up. Especially when the Doctor decides that to protect her, he had to go after the aliens they'd just escaped from, on his own at all costs. What lengths will he go to, if it means keeping her safe? What will he return to find, after having left Rose alone to deal with her past in combination with his betrayal? As they fight to move forward, both of them have to confront their own desires and darkness and each other's, if they truly want to be each other's forever.
Honestly started this just as an excuse to write them having angry sex in the jumpseat but now I'm roughly nine-hundred pages in. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Rewrite of the end of season one, from just before Boomtown. Will be at least a three part series.
